I subscribed to our IProvider's free web page. I can't get any help from them because it is FRIDAY and they were too busy!! I have the trial version of Visual Site Designer. I also am running Mozilla (if that matters. Now, my IP has some stuff listed on their site of how to load onto the web. I can copy and paste that if you need. I thought I followed the instr. but nothing has happened. Here is what their site says:
1. Create a website using any html editor you may already own or have access to via the internet.
2. FTP your new website to the yourlink server ((this is my provider - yourlink))
3. In the Windows Explorer/Internet Explorer window and in the address bar...type in ftp.yourlink.ca
A pop up window asking for username and password will come up. type in the first part of your email address with yourlink.ca..before the @ part of your email address....use the same password you use for email...wait.
4. you will see 3 yellow folders...DO NOT DELETE ANY FOLDERS or your EMAIL WILL STOP WORKING!!
double click on the folder called public_html
there you will see a file called index.html...this is your temporary homepage file...replace with your own index.html file
5. minimize the public_html window...and open the folder that has your own created files on your computer
...make this window smaller if taking up entire screen...now open the public_html window and make its window smaller, so you can now see both windows side by side...
6. Click on a file from your computeryour newly created index.html file) and hold and drag into the public_html window...it will ask if you want to overwrite it, say yes...
7.Now open a new internet window and go to your new webspace page www.yourlink.ca/~youremailname and see your new webpage.
8. Transfer all pictures and html pages related to your newly created webpage into the same public_html folder.

NOTE: this server does NOT allow themes or FrontPage extensions...they will not work.
This is the live web site. Subdirectories may be created at will. Any files you upload to the server will be publicly accessible.

So I thought I did all this, but there is nothing on the page. I have files on my computer called my webpage.vnu_website and one that has a
vnu extension that won't open.....and also the girl from my IProvider told me that I had to have a folder for the images because ???and I did make one of those.
Please help me.

Hi queenie
First Visual Site Designer makes your website and saves it as a sort of template for you as a .VNU file. That can only be open in VSD.
The directions look like they are explaining how to upload through explorer but you could try a few things in VSD to upload. VSD makes the html files nessesary to view your website you made which means that the index.html file they are talking about is made also.
To try and use VSd to upload your webpages I would try these settings first .
FTP Server>ftp.youlink.ca
USER NAME>*********
PASWORD>*********
WWW>public_html
and see if that works for you. if not try selecting the passive mode by placing a check mark. This can all be done by opening VSD and going to settings>ftp settings> and filling it out (above)and try it. If it works look for the folder called public_html and double click it to open and then upload there. I would also suggest that maybe changing the name of your site to mywebpages instead of my webpages_vnu.website may not be excepted on your server as well. just naming it mywebpages will automatically save as mywebpages_website, VSD handles all that for you.
Vsd will also make a folder called files for all your images, so there would be no need to add one ( folder) unless you wish to. I know this is a quick explanation and I didn't go into much detail but it was meant to be a quick answer. any questions write back please.

THANKS Bruce!!! You saved me.
All seems to be well.
I can't believe it! Thanks again, so much. It is always something very simple, it seems.
