I seem to vaguely remember having dealt with some H1 labeled images when I first started to making the site I believe that they had to do with advanced text. When I was trying to use the brush script text that was giving problems Then I decided to just use the gif images for the text and put in the alternate text for the seo to read. Seems that the SEO places a high ranking on H1 tagged header images so I guess that it woulds be to my advantage in the seo to change my top image to an H1 tagged image and perhaps to incorporate the sub headers into it too

Greg it is not advisable to register your site with google, yahoo, bing etc untill it is almost finished

If they find poor content, or constant title or id changes it will not help your ranking at all

I tend to wait till its fairly neet and tidy and then add the html file to the page using the html tool, now again this is not the CORRECT way of doing things, but i have two nice visible html boxes stretched accross the top of my home page, one left to centre one centre to right with the google verification code in one, and yahoo in the other.

Again if you look at the source code on my wedding car site you will see them not far down page

<!--html inserted by user -->
<META name="y_key" content="420cbda4e2c58357" />
<meta name="google-site-verification" content="-bgvpM_1quJr-tEWDb_rxU7wWL2kDga2aMO-WaUBeww" />

All that code means nothing to me, but google and yahoo have verified they are there, and i can see VISIBLY on my home page how i placed them, and if something goes wrong, i can just copy and paste it back

Greg,
If you have a webmaster account with Google - and have your site submitted there - they will give you specific advice about which of your <title> tags are too long or too short, about which of your Meta Descriptions may need some attention, etc..
Above all, it is the content of your site that count more than anything else for rankings. Google will generate their own list of key words based on the content of your pages. (In your Google Webmaster account, you can see their key word list!) The main thing you have to pay attention to regarding your key words <meta> tag, is that the list must be consistent with the page content. If it's not, you will be penalized in the rankings.
Those are the basics and they are independent of whatever tools you may be using for building your site...
And with that I'll bow out, - with wishes of luck and success for you and your site...

Thank you but what I am talking about is taking those two header images on your site and converting both by consolidating them and then making them into an H1 image Then the SEO would have a nice big H1 image to index. I need to have some suggestions of making my top section of Workhorse Painting Company and interior exterior residential commercial into an image and getting tagged as the H1. I have been for awhile trying to figure it by reviewing the software but am coming up nil so it looks to me that I will have to put a patch in the code to accomplish this, perhaps to upload the code alteration by editing it with the CC FTP

OK, it was the CC website font application and you can make text box tags a H1 there guess I will need to review that I remember at the time I got all confused and gave up on using it and just went with the gif image I had produced. Seems I could make the tags but could not figure out how to get them up on the site

Viv, the <h1> is the largest header tag, used for the main header of a site. In VSD you can't set header tags, so that is probably why you don't know about it. If you have the HTML Editor, try writing a word or two surrounded by <h1> </h1> and see what happens. Try the same with <h2> and any of the other header tags up to 6. If you haven't got the Editor, do the same in Notepad and save it as something.html and then view it in a browser.

Greg, it is possible to place the header tags on both sides of an image when you are using the alt and title tags. So this should be ok:
<h1><img src="files/IMG_4.1.gif" width="559px" height="70px" alt="Workhorse Painting Company" title="Workhorse Painting Company"></h1>

Quite another thing is how to accomplish this in VSD. I don't use VSD, but I imagine that using the html tool and placing the above code in the body html, where you want the heading to appear, would be ok. But let Eric take you through the nitty gritties of that process.

There are other ways of using the h1 tag for a logo img too, but I think the one above is the easiest one. Our Senior Advisor Jim Cantrell has a different way described on his page: http://www.freebits.co.uk/css-heading-tag.html

OK, I tried to get the h1 tags up with the CC website font app and crashed and burned again on that one So then I tried Ingers latest suggestion and that one is working good. It did move the image down a smidge but i can probably raise it a little or will find a solution but that is not a big deal

For Viv (or anyone else), type your code snippet in notepad (or whatever you prefer). Copy it then click the HTML tool in VSD and drag out a box where you want it on your page. Paste your code into it (body section). In Object Properties, make sure your dimensions match your code dimensions. If your using images, go to Edit > Add Files and browse to your images to add them.

You can grab your HTML object to position it or you can select it and use the keyboard up/down arrows to nudge it into place. You can also set an exact pixel location i Object Properties.
