I am working on the SEO of my site that I created with VSD, guess that this is the proper category to submit the question in?...
I received an email from AboutUs advising me that my title tag was very poor. I tried to follow their suggestions and came up with this title tag:

Full service custom Painting Contractor excellence by Workhorse Painting Company serving Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beaches of Florida providing interior and exterior-residential and commercial services

Please give me some feedback on this title tag such as is it complete enough, short enough long enough etc...

I guess it's ok. I've not seen such a long title before. Normally I would have put the above into the description tag and used something shorter for the title.

Rather than me trying to parse and word-engineer your Title tag, I would instead suggest you go straight to "the source" for good, relevant advice regarding all things SEO, i.e. Google.

First, Google's "SEO Starter Guide", which you can download here as a pdf:

Then follow their suggestions to get your site indexed and ranked, etc...

Your a VSD user, first like me those technical terms land on deaf ears, and as a VSD user we dont need to know anything about them !!!!!!!!

Home page :: if you put your curser over the tab in say firefox, at present you see workhorsepainting.com

This is possibly what they are refering to as title tag :: in VSD its the page title for that particular page, and it wants to be specific to that page only, so i would be putting something like

Workhorse painting company based in Jacksonville Beaches Florida, for a personal professional interior & exterior decorating service call for a free estimate

Now in to get the best advantage change the page id to something like jacksonvilledecorator

now go to VSD edit top left of screen, and select edit keywords and descriptions.

In here you want in description (SOMETHING LIKE) :: Workhorse painting company based in Jacksonville Beaches Florida, for a personal professional interior & interior decorating service call for a free estimate

and in keywords :: jacksonville,beaches,florida,interior,exterior,painter,decorator,commercial,trade,custom,independant,proffessional,specialist,in,............,...........,...........,.............,postcode,list of towns you want work from

Try to use keywords that match your words in your page content.

Now for your about me page, you go through the exact same process but changing all the detail so it is different and attracts google in a different way.

ie :: Title :: Workhorse painting company for a personal professional one to one tradesman with thirty years experience in interior and exterior painting and decorating

Page id :: painterdecorator

keywords :: painter,decorator,professional,personal,independant,jacksonvillee,long,established,......etc

Resedential page :: specialist in painting and decorating interior and exterior residential properties in Jacksonville and surrounding area, postcode, list towns

Page id :: resedentialdecorating

If you get the drift page id reflects that page content, matches heading for page, and included in key words

Include likely spelling errors in keywords residential,resedential,resedent,resident

it has very good page ranking for location in this case where he lives is Chalfont, Amersham, Chesham most local towns are Moorpark, Rickmansworth, Chorleywood and he wants mainly local clients for wedding car hire, and executive cars

Some SEO critique I have received from perhaps Google was that it did not have an H1 header title section and that it is important to have that. Should I put such an H1 title header section onto my home pg? What part of the existing pg should I convert into an H1 header section? This is a continuation of improving SEO on my site

Thank you for the tips will take me awhile to implement these additions and corrections looks like they will need to be addressed on all pgs of the site. So far I have only submitted to Google and I am not sure whether or not they have indexed it yet. I thought that I had submitted it several weeks ago but found out a few days ago that there were errors and it had not been scanned. So now I think that the Google bots can read the site map and it will be indexed soon. So I guess that now I will start to improving all of the SEO info on the site then I guess that I will start submitting to other search engines.

The main header on a site usually has the h1 tag, in your case 'Workhorse Painting company'.

Looks like they have been indexed, was not the case yesterday they were pending Guess that I should increase the frequency of the scans from a month to a week while I am making all of the large scale changes to the SEO information

This is the code on the home pg for the top image guess that I will have to review the software to figure how to change it to an H1 header image

VSD does everything for me, page title = ( i know not what in code terms) do i care, NO i just want good ranking in google yahoo bing etc.

Everyone says, go to google to get advice on seo, but google does not tell you HOW to incorporate it into VSD

Jo Ann hopefully or Eric & Inger and a few others can explain, it will all go straight over my head, hence my signature comment, about hammer blowtorch and files, VSD is my tool box and wysiwyg is the nearest i can get to using a hammer or file as i can see what i am filing off, or adding in, rather than, <break> hashtag >yyyhd> who knows
