Solution for slow uploading through VSD?

Hi All, I have a 30 + page long website built in VSD and uploaded to my server through the upload feature in VSD. However, sa the site is getting bigger and bigger, if I change just one period on one sentence on just one page, it will take 30 minutes to complete the upload because VSD appears to want to rebuild the entire website everytime I upload it, rather than upload only those files that have changed. Is there a setting in VSD that I can access to change the way it uploads to the server so it only uploads "changed files", rather than reloading the entire website everytime? I tried to use filezilla to ftp the entire site up to the server (at the suggestion of our tech support folks), but the files didn't sync properly and the image files were toasted on-line. THANKS for you input!

HI Bonnie,
When you make a change in VSD, it has to go thru every page to determine which page or pages were added to or had something removed from. If you notice when you click on the upload button, a quick little window (one with the loading bar) says something to the effect of will check your pages, it's really quick. I wish I could show you but I can't even upload, so I to use Filezilla and direct ftp. anyway it actually only uploads the pages or page that was editied after it has chacked all of them, I know it seems like it's uploading but actuallyit isn't. Now to use Filezilla, after you made your changes , click save and then you would open your website folder and upload everything in it, which includes the files folder, this may be why it didn't sync properly. Also upload your vnu file as well as a back up, normally using the built in ftp does this for you.

It would be a cool feature if, when making changes to a website, the only things that had to get "compared" and uploaded were the pages that the user actually opened. That would be a much faster FT

But probably a slower download, or opening of pages for the users...

I too have a large website. but now I just make the changes.. save it.. and then manually upload the web page and file folders and that takes like 20 seconds.. and I'm done! But.. saving the webiste after making one change ..let's you use the bathroom of finish a beer before it saves completely..

One other trick I used.. is I have alot of photogallery pages.. on the site.. I created 5 or 6 pages of phto galleries per month.. and each page can consist of 700 pictures easily..

I made up blank photo gallery files and put them into each page.. so the pages could be created..but not have to suffer the load time of each coffeecup application add-on...

Now When it is time to add photos to a gallery for the last month of June.. the file is alrady made and I can simply add files to the blank one and upload it to the site.. and it updates the gallery.. without screwing anything up during the vsd upload process..

Hey JR, if you check back in here I am curious what the photography site is.
I'm posting mostly photographs on my site as well, and it can get tedious with VSD in terms of upload times. Not sure about the procedure you are using or how it makes the upload any faster, could you please explain?

Inger, why would download times be slower for the user if the content is identical?

Bill,

If you produce a page that displays your photos, using the CC Photo Gallery, you can let the Photo Gallery program upload the changes. Your web page has code that looks for the XML file and plays what the XML directs. XML files are text and move fast, but uploading the photos may take a while.

Bill. The website is www.lakehavasupoledancer.com

scan the photot galleries and see how I amde the pages..

For July.. The pages are already made..

Soon I will make the blank photo gallery files for each section of the month of July. ie July 1st thru 5th July 6th - 12th...

Make the blank files in photo gallery.. saves MUCHO time for loading and saving the VSD site..

then goto photogallery program and open the blank files and start uploading pics as the days roll in.. then upload the xml files from the photogallery program

It's a simple way to get the owners to upload their own pics.. after their instruction Imade to downsize the pics from pixconverter

My 2 cents would be upload your gallery files from photo gallery and just copy the html code given to your page then save it then upload.....

JR,

I looked at the site, but did not find any photo galleries. I did find video galleries.

The idea should work for video just as it would for photos.
