Sequence for building webpages and links

I recently bought the v.6 of VSD and learning it now. Fantastic software--- thanks! The forums and help pages have really helped me in learning.

I am recreating another website so will be using the info from that site to make the new website with VSD.

I can't seem to find anything on this subject about a sequence for building pages and links.

I have my index page built and now am ready to make drop down menus in order to link to my other pages. I can put the page names in (because I know them from the other site that I am copying) but then must wait until I actually build the other pages to do the linking.

Of course I understand I have to have a page built before I can link to it so my question is what is the order that you all follow to put in the links. Do you build all your pages and then go back to each page and do all the linking? Is there a shortcut to copying the links from page to page --- the main ones in the drop down menus??

I've probably already figured this out  because it sounds to me after re-reading this that to copy links would be impossible but would still like your input on your sequence of building sites.

appreciate you info!!

Hi Kare,
What I like to do is get the homepage started as you have, then copy the homepage so they all look alike and name them as I add them- I also delete the menus on the aded pages as they are made. ( I know what your thinking -you thinking Bruzer why? ) well after the pages are made and the menus are deleted I go to the homepage and link all the pages in the menu there and then I copy and paste them into the other pages so it's a more uniform look. At this point I would unload the site in a sub folder on the server to see what it would look like online and make any adjustments that are needed and check my links.
but that's me. :)

This sounds great but remember I am using VSD --- where can I pick up the code or how do I copy the links as you say?

Gotta figure out that "upload the site in a sub folder on my server too" I use a 'public html' folder with my web host to upload my other site to and with VSD will switch to using the FTP --- but haven't gotten that far yet.

p.s. all your tutorials I have found thru these forums are great -- they have helped me a lot.

Thanks I try! :)
this will show you what I mean by copy and paste: http://www.kellyinfo.com/web/linking.html

well you can always make a folder inside that public_html folder and upload to that. Another thing is it's best to upload using VSD as it is to use some other client, this way your sure not to miss an image or file doing it the other way. Who are you hosted with may I ask.

Thanks!! so much!! I really did not think that was possible.

I presume it will work with drop down menu links too. I am going to try out the DHTML app later today and make the drop downs --- or hope to. (We are snowed in today so I have the whole day to play with VSD-- couldn't make it to church!)

I host with 'The Grace Net' web hosting. I haven't been in any hurry to get the pages and site built because our site is already online and I am just redoing it so.............. am trying to really learn VSD as I go along. Will figure out the uploading later on and will do as you say about using VSD to upload. I had read that somewhere else in the files and was planning on that too.

thanks again!
