Problem Opening Visual Site Designer...

I recently purchased Virtual Site Designer after using the trial programme without problems. I have a desktop shortcut but each time I try and open the programme I get a windows error mesaage which says VSD has stopped working. Windows will close the programme and notify you etc etc... The programme will not open and there appears to be a conflict somewhere. My only solution is to uninstall and reinstall which is becoming a bit tedious..!!
Is anyone experiencing the same problem and if so any fixes to hand?

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1 installed on a HP Presario V6000 laptop.

This can happen even if you are running as an Administrator, and it is caused by Vista's very strict security settings.

To fix this, right-click your Visual Site Designer shortcut icon and select Run as Administrator. This should properly launch Visual Site Designer for you. If it does, great! You can continue to launch the program in this way, or you can go a step further and configure the shortcut to always run as administrator. Here's how:

1. Right-click the shortcut icon, and click Properties.
2. Click the Compatibility tab.
3. Here, put a check mark by Run This Program as an Administrator.
4. Next, put a check mark next to Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For: and ensure Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 is selected.
5. Click OK.

If you continue having problems you may also need to set the application as an exception to Vista's Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature. Normally if this is the culprit, you'll get a little bubble along the taskbar notifying you, which will allow you to set the offender as an exception.

One last option that could be the cause of this, and related to the DEP feature, is User Account Controls. This is the large window that appears in Vista asking you to "Allow" or "Deny" access to functions within programs. You can turn this off within your Control Panel > User Accounts window, along the left-hand pane.

All three options let you control your system exactly how you want and give you full access to do/run anything on the computer.

OK, Great, it works
By Pass VISTA'S security to run a program that should be available to the masses.
Good thing I AM the administrator or Coffee Cup software would not be installed on this network!

What good does it do to clamp down on computer security if the software designers make you by pass it for their programs to function?

Man Get Real, the Coffee Cup guys fixed the problem, without compromising the security of anything, and in double quick time, Vista is a pain in the butt on occasions and was far from being a thought through product when released...!!

Version 6.0 works better with Vista and this will no longer need to be tweaked to run.

However we have never once been able to get this to occur in house. Go figure... ;)

It is still running in beta. Our lead programmer is finally out of the hospital and recovering nicely and working hard on the last minute items now.

Scott,

When is the new "Vista" version of Visual Site Designer going to be released. I tried all the fixes that have been suggested to run it on my system with no luck. Anxiously waiting ... Brenda
