PDF documents link not opening in VSD...

Hello, I apologize in advance if this has been addressed here before, but I couldn't find a direct solution to the issue I'm having.

I am redesigning my website with CoffeCup's VSD :D, and I've come to a page where I am attaching pdf files using the "buttonize" feature. I can get it all set up easily using the "Link" tab then selecting "document" and browsing to the file location on my pc. However, when going to preview my work, I get an error that states, Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (c) isn't associated with any program. This error happens with both Firefox and IE.

Also, I have tried a link just using text without the Buttonize feature too, and it still has same error.

I did notice that after saving and everything, that a sub folder titled "download" was created in my CoffeCup folder where all of the website files (pictures, etc.) are held. All of the pdfs are in this file now after saving. Also, the names of the pdf files are all letters with no spacing or special characters.

Any suggestions? Thoughts? Maybe I'm missing something. Thanks for all your help.

That is normal. Just publish it, then you'll see the pdf will display.

It is unfortunate. The computer club site I maintain has many, many links to pdf handouts, newsletters and informational articles. I have to trust that all is working ok and that nothing gets fowled up during the publish process.

We SHOULD be able to see pdf files in preview. This ability was "broken" going from VSD 6 to VSD 7 as I used to use it alot.

Thanks,

Galen

Will they put the feature back? Also, if I make changes or updates to certain pages of my site, does it have to re publish the entire site? Or can it just publish to updates to the page?

Thanks

VSD will detect what has been changed/added and only publish the new stuff.

If you add the PDF to your site through the add files tool then use the link tool to type the url to it , the preview will work.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

I've ran into another problem with the pdfs that I'm not sure why this is happening. From what I know, everything uploaded to the server just fine. When I created the links on the webpage, I navigated to the proper folder on my hard drive to attach the pdf file to the "button" accordingly. I published the page, and waited while everything uploaded. It appears that everything is fine, as a "download" folder was automatically created in my website folder that contains all the pdf files.

However, only one out of eleven separate links to their respective pdf actually displays the pdf. I wonder why? The other ten just say error, the requested file was not found on this server. I tried removing all the links in VSD, then re adding them from their original location on my pc, then uploading/publishing the site again....... with no luck.

Here's the link to my page where I wanted them. On the right-hand column, the only one that works is the top button that says November 2010. All the rest under it give me the error.

Thanks...

Use filezilla or any other ftp program and log into your server to see if your pdf files are actually there and in the right subdirectory.

If not, then just upload them with the ftp program. VSD won't mind as long as the link to the pdf in VSD is right.
