My home pg which I had pg ID'ed as index pg for like 6 and one half years. Recently I changed the Page ID on the home pg /Index pg to new pg ID: interiorexteriorpainting.
When I open the VSD application and select File and then select the listed program or site save the pg that opens up and the home pg or index pg is that pg interiorexteriorpainting.

When I do a preview of that pg its url is www.workhorsepainting.com/index.html. The url on the live site is the same. When I try to make another pg. with the pg ID of interiorexteriorpainting It tells me that it is not unique select another. But no where does that url show up. the html file in the vsd floder is named index file the file on the server is named index file and not interiorexteriorpainting. all of the other pgs ID's are descriptinve names and not pg #'s and they are all showing up in the url.

Do I need to do a redirect? index.html to www.workhorsepainting.com/interiorexteriorpainting.html

Then the interiorexteriorpainting pg ID will start to show up in the url ?...

I am thinking that if I do put in the redirect it will give a pg not found error becasue there is no html file named interiorexteriorpainting

If that's what you want for the name of the landing page then yes. VSD will always rename your page to index when uploaded but locally not let you use the same name on another page.

I don't know about you but I don't type my search's that way. I would type it this way.

So when I go to a sites home pg and it does not have index at the end of its url how on earth did they get it that way?
I have been checking a half a dozen sites around here just now and none of them have index at the end of the url on their home pg Will someone please tell me how I get my home pg url to render without the index file name at the end of it?

That does not show index.html at the end of your site in the address bar. Where is it you are seeing it show up?

VSD overrides what you type. Look at the page properties box. There's a check box to make any page your Home page. This will be named index when uploaded. I name mine index so I don't get confused.

OK I am trying to understand how this home pg nomenclature is working
When I did the search granted the weird search of the interiorexteriorpainting jacksonville florida my home pg came up on the first pg near the top which tells me that the indexing of the name I want is working.

I get a pg not found error naturally because there is no html file with that name on it even though that is the pg ID all other pg ID's have their ID names on their html file name
So I am just going to have to trust that it is there and working
I'm still wondering how other people get unique ones in their home pg url guess that they are duplicate pgs with different pg ID's than the actual site home pg
