I have a page in my website which contains links to other websites. Is there any way I can setup the links so that I can go to a linked site, surf that site and then return to my website page without having to hit the back button many times?

Thanks, Barbara

If you click on a link from your site to someone else's site, you have to use the back button. If you, however, mean going from one page to another within your own site, you can make the navigation buttons so that you can go both ways.

My 2.5 cents...

Make links open in new tabs. I know, some people don't like that, I personally prefer it. In fact, when I'm surfing, I always right click links and open in new tab. I HATE the back button!!!

I have to agree with Phil, open any page that leads off your site in a new window. Yes, some people don't like it, but you don't want them to lose your site.

I usually make internal links open in the same tab/window and external site links in a new tab/window. I want to keep people on the site. :)

In VSD how do you make the links open in a new tab rather than taking the current tab to that link?

I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Thank you all for your comments. It seems the term"tab" have the same meaning as "window". That confused me for awhile (being very new to website design)!

It depends on the browser and settings. You can open a new tab in the same window, or open an entirely different window.

I'm still grappling with the nomenclature!

I think if you open a new window for a linked website, then exiting that window (using the X in the top right corner) takes you back to the original page the link was on.

How do you open a tab in the same window using VSD? How do you setup a link to create a tab in the window and what does it look like once the link has been selected?

A related question: is there any way to have a pdf document open up on a blank page of the website (designed with VSD) so that the basic colours and menu are present?

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
