VSD version 5.9.4

url: www.njcrusadersbasketball.com

Problem:

When creating a LINK to a document and running in the default browser or built in browser it shows the contents of the entire folder.

Action.
Highlight text, select link, check use link and Document. I browswe to e:\filename.doc and exit out.

When I preview I see all the files in E:\ instead of just opening the specific file.

On the website it just can't find the file. It just says pasge not found for all my links.

I've only been using the product for a short time and it's great. Thanks.

Hi. I went to your web page, and most of your links seem to work, so something is working properly. There are 2 links that did not work, but they both point to the same thing....and it is not a web page.
Both the "click here for full schedule" link, AND "drills and skills" point to /files/download/ with no page name, or extension, like .html or .doc
Are those the links you mean? Try saving your work before checking the links to see if that helps.

Cliff,

Yes, that's correct.

Links to URL's seem to work. I do happen to save my work before uploading out of habit. For some reason the link is not sticking. On my end when I click on it I see all the files in the source folder.

I created a test page. Added some text called "Link" and tried to create a link to c:\.doc file. I then saved and previewed.

I see all the contents of the C:\ drive. Very strange.

Thanks for the quick response. Any other suggestions?

Links work best when there are no spaces in the names of the files. I can see that some of your other links and pages have spaces in the names. Try renaming or "save as" on the files you need and name them something like "thisfile.doc" instead of "this is file 1.doc" so that there are no blank space. "this_file.doc" is a valid name for the internet, but "this file .doc" is not. See if that helps.
It looks like the program has lost it's ability to save the file directly where you need it. How about making a copy of the file, saving it in the same directory you have your web pages save in, and then fetching it from there? Maybe that will do the trick.
Worse comes to worse, make sure you have the latest version (download it from CoffeeCup) and then uninstal your version (making sure to backup all your web pages and files first), then install the one you downloaded and try it with that. BE SURE TO MAKE A BACKUP OF ALL YOUR WEB FILES BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT TO LOOSE THEM!

Cliff,

These were all terrific suggestions. I tried:

1. a different file e.g e:\sched.doc
b. an image
c. reading from another folder
d. renaming the file to include no spaces

2. Uninstalled VSD and reinstalled

3. I tried one of the packaged templates with VSD 5.9.4 and changed the link and that works. I sense some corruption or a problem with a security setting or something.

The preview browser comes up and shows all the files in the directory. I have a problem with some links on the website but I certainly can't create any new ones. I'm missing something.

OK,

It took all day but I resolved my problem by removing all links to any documents on my homepage along with some of the higlighted shapes i used to lay over the text.

I then starting rebuilding the links one by one. I could see in the lower tray where the documents or images were being referenced and tested one by one.

My guess is the page was cluttered with too many objects and caused the problem. I'm good now but learned a vaulable lesson to back up all my work after testing a good build of the page. A Backup\Restore Utility button would be nice.

Cliff - All the best. Closing Thread.
