I haven't had a chance to check out the latest VSD 5.9 release. Does it have any dynamic sizing features to build pages that fill out all the way across viewers yet? I am hoping it is a new feature.

Hello stopgreenpath,

Unfortunately the new version of Visual Site Designer does not have the capability to set dynamic sizing for a site, you may be able to use CSS along with the html tool to accomplish this feature for now though.

Me too John. Thank you Orlando.

Dynamic sizing and positioning is becoming more and more requested in my web building business.People are pointing to sites built this way and asking me to duplicate this. I am using another building program that accomplishes this, but use a lot of CC software for the finishing touches. It would be so nice to use VSD because of the convenient consolidating it does with all your other great software. Keep up the great work at CC, and please consider adding dynamic sizing and positioning capability to VSD soon.

I can't speak on CoffeeCup's behalf, but here's my thought. Being a "visual" editor (especially being all DIVs/absolute positioning), I don't see how you could create a site in a wysiwyg kind of app like this if it won't look the same on every computer. I've seen enough forum threads claiming sites don't look in the browser as they did in the editor. I can only imagine the exponentially larger amount of posts if VSD allowed dynamic sizing. However, I'm never one to turn down giving more options. If CoffeeCup could pull it off, go for it! Otherwise, the recommendation would most likely be to move onto HTML Editor to give more freedom in design.

In addition to what Adam said, importing your current pages into the HTML Editor will be very easy.

So, it's not like you would have to start from scratch. You can find the html files that the HTML Editor will use located all in the same folder, as placed by VSD.

Thank you for weighing in on this Adam.

This era of wysiwyg page builders and their constant upgrading with new features was fueled by the desire to do things quickly and easily without going to html editors. This is the whole purpose of CC software and others like them - to do the html writing for us. We want our cake and eat it too! (hee hee)

I currently use 3 different wysiwyg programs to build websites, and deal with the problems related to using the awesome CC plug in programs with the unafilliated page builders. All have their own benefits, and one of them is a wysiwyg program that does dynamic positioning and sizing quite well, so I know it can be done. Interestingly enough, it is the least expensive of the 3 by far.

As you know, the coding differences between objects with absolute positioning and those same objects with dynamic positioning is very minimal.

I agree that using these dynamic features incorrectly can have disasterous effects on how sites are viewed, but when used correctly the intent is for the pages to look differently on different viewers. Most dynamic sizing issues occur when builders attempt to use this coding on pages already set up to auto-center. I hope CC considers adding dynamic feature as an option to auto-centering. I would begin using VSD in a heartbeat, and take advantage of the convenience of having all the CC programs I use under one roof (so to speak). I'll never give up my CC form builder, menu builder, or html editor, but it's a pain using them in non CC programs, and keeping all the different procedures straight.

I JUST downloaded VSD...I got tired of using my other tool which was faaarrrr too buggy for my tastes. So far, from what I'm seeing, I am enjoying this.

One quite note..."Bump" to this thread...any progress on dynamic sizing.

The beauty of having built a number of sites I now know what to ask before I start!

Soooooo...dynamic sizing in this or do I need to go get the HTML editor and do it the "hard" way? Thanks guys and Coffee Cup Rocks!

You can force code that's put into a html box in vsd to be dynamically sized but the page will still have to be manually sized. If your going to use the html editor to edit your vsd pages make sure you use a website name in vsd just for that purpose with the idea that you won't every publish the site but use it to get source code to bring into the HTML Editor. This way you won't be doing a bunch of rework for page's that get published over by VSD during an upload session.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
