I'm new to this and tried searching for a solution to this problem in the forums, but with no luck. I may have overlooked something. Anyway, here's my problem:

My website font type/size/alignment, and text box dimensions changes depending on browser type used. On two different home computers (one using firefox 3.6.10, the other IE 6.0, both with different size monitors) everything looks fine. On a new Verizon Droid X phone, all looks fine. On several client's computers, the ITC Avant Garde font changes to what looks like Times New Roman, and various formatting issues become apparent.

Anybody willing to provide advice or guide me to a thread that provides a solution?

Thanks.

Hmm. Everything looks the same to me on latest FF and IE. You should really upgrade IE to version 8. Haven't you heard that IE6 is dead? :)

The change of font is likely because of the ITC Avant Garde font is not installed on the computers that are displaying Times New Roman. Certain Fonts are so-called 'web safe' and your ITC Avant Garde is not among them. You can read about the web safe fonts here: http://www.fonttester.com/web_safe_fonts.html.

Nice site you have, BTW :)

Try the Coffee Cup Website Font application. Download the trial version and try it out - it'll probably solve your issue.

I don't think the web crawlers will read "website Font" as text so you have to account for your text to be displayed somewhere else in such a way as it can be indexed properly.

Thanks for the responses thus far. I'll try a web friendly font to see if that solves the font problem as well as the formatting problem. Mike, are you saying that web crawlers don't recognize the CC Website Fonts specifically?

Inger Eik -- it appears the web-safe fonts don't offer the fonts that fit my needs. I think I will give CC's Website Font application a try.

Brian... I believe that the crawlers can read the web fonts created by the font maker.
Check out the software spec...
...Text you put in your Flash fonts can still be indexed by search engines.

Brian, VSD gives you the option to convert your text into images, using allow advanced text option

It will work with any text you have installed on your pc

when text is in blue surround box, tick advanced text, then click on effects (looks like a wand) tick any of the boxes you prefer, and with sliders you can do changes, shadow, glow, etc, once changes have been made it will be saved as an image

Dont use it on everything, as it slows down the way the page loads.

Yes, Jewelcraft is right. For places where you really want the font to stay what you want across any browser use Advanced Text in a shape. You can color shapes to match the background or stand out. This makes for a nice way to place a link too. :)

I'm working with the Website Font app now; downloaded sIFR Font Maker. It's all a bit of a learning curve -- haven't met my objective yet, but am trying.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
