Several things here Tim...first, you really should rename all those PDFs without spaces. Some servers deal well, some do not. Best to just use a dash or underscore.
Second, the links you are talking about do not exist. When I hover over your link, this is all I get
http://www.historicinteriors.com/files/Download No filename. I think another user had this problem and it was solved by adding the .pdf to his filename. In your case, if you are selecting the filename in browse, then it may be the spaces that are killing it. Try a file or two with no spaces in the name and see what you get.
And last, adding an .htaccess file would stop everyone from being able to access that directory.
