How do you create subpages so it...

I would like to know how to create subpages so shows the subpages in the url such as:
I currently have a page
http://farmerlawoffices.com/practiceareas.html
On that page I have a link to
http://farmerlawoffices.com/drugcharges.html

I would really like that drug charge page to have a url to look like: http://farmerlawoffices.com/practiceare … arges.html

If I create a page with a PageID of practiceareas/drugcharges, I get a message that say Illegal characters were removed from the ID.

Is there a way to accomplish what I want to do?

You'll need two VNU files so that you can publish the pages to their appropriate folder. For the new sub folder you'll just save your site as a different name then change the ftp publishing setting to point it to the sub-folder. Linking on the index page in the root folder for pages in the sub-folder will have to be done with the url tool in the VSD link properties window.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Hi Eric,
I am confused ... can you give examples of what you mean? Also, does that mean for every subpage in a branch of an url, I will have to have mutiple vnu files? Also, will each vnu file be exactly the same, or only have those pages that are in the subdirectory.

So would the following have 1 vnu file that I call PA.vnu with these ONLY three pages & I would ftp it to the practice areas folder?
Then anytime I want to link to these pages I would link to an EXTERNAL URL with the fully qualified url?

& then I need another vnu file that I can call CD.vnu with ONLY these pages & I would ftp it to the criminal defense folder?

You pretty much nailed it. Each vnu file would have a different name. The one thing you could do is create the sub directory pages under a different site name (aka: vnu file) then in the primary site do add folders then files and add the sub pages to the folders in that site. Just browse to the other sites folder on you pc and select them. You'll also have to add the files directory for the sub-folders for the second VNU so that their linking to images and elements added to those pages work. You would still have to edit the pages under each vnu but it would cut you down to two vnu files and you would be publishing from just one. I think to keep things straight publishing from both is the way to go. It will make linking easier to keep track of. Try it both ways on some simple pages to see how you like.:)

Gary,
I think you're getting more confused here. You will not be able to post more than one .vnu file to each domain name unless you use a sub-domain.
The issue you're having is just the characters you chose for the file name. Go ahead and create one .vnu file (website), the other pages you mentioned, and use the names just as you had. When you save it will say "Illegal Characters Removed". Those are the "/"'s, you can't use them but you can use a "-" instead. If you still get the illegal characters issue, after saving the page you can re-open the Page Properties (Page on top row of VSD) and change the file name again. When you change the file names this way it will allow you to use some illegal characters. Each page will be a page in your site, link it however you wish.

Well, think I get this but I'm not sure. Say I have one Website with a vnu file. Then I want subpages for some of the pages in that site -- to hold supplementary content. Do I understand that I create a second independent site (vnu file) and then create links forward and back between the two sites? And the server files folder for the second site would be a subfolder of the folder for the parent site?

You really don't have to do this for your site but some users might have a special reason to have it setup this way.
The second site would reside inside a sub folder on the main site. Another expression for this is sub-domain. I do this for a site that I don't want to get a domain name for. For example. Lets say you have the website devorahfox.com and you want to make a sub site for your friend. You would make a new site(vnu) and set the publishing settings to publish lets say to devorahfox.com/myfriend/. Now when someone types devorahfox.com/myfriend the index page will automatically open for the sub-domain.:)
