I've done this before. CC does not like some icons that have all the fancy adds on there, ones that overlap one another, i.e., illumination, shadowing, mouseover. It'll let u set them up that way, but then error messages start resulting (especially save error messages), but not all the time.

I ended up having to space all the icons wayyyyyyyyyyy far apart for the page to go through. I just ended up dumping the fancy stuff and went simple.

I just created this situation: https://backup.filesanywhere.com/fs/v.a … 64a4b2a4ac

My computer crapped out on me a few weeks ago with a Windows auto update. Just got stuck in restart mode. Long story short, I didn't make a backup of my Web site. Came here to see that the server keeps backup copies. Yay!!! Thanx for that advice.

Anyway, got the backup loaded into VSD. All I did was change the wording at top of each page cuz it got knocked off balance in all these changes. Then the error message occurred.

ETA: To fix, I had to do a "save as," get out of VSD and reenter. No more problems.

Thanks Dorthy. On that screen shot, all I can see is your mouse pointer. Can you double check that image?

For me it only does it the first few times I try to save after I've created a brand new website. After giving me the error message about a dozen or so times, it just starts saving correctly for some reason.

I want to thank those who have sent me a few things to try. So far I still cannot reproduce any of these on my system following the exact same steps.

One thing that may help me is knowing the exact steps you are taking. Clicking a toolbar icon is different then using a menu item, right click or keyboard short-cut used. It is all in the details.

Hopefully we can narrow this down soon.

Hi there. I've gotten this message when bouncing back and forth between pages when editing. Because it open new windows each time you view a specific page, there was one occasion when it opened two front pages, rather than just switching back to the one that was already open (hope that makes some kind of sense!). Because there were two front pages open at once, I got the "cannot save home page" error as well. As soon as I closed one of the front page windows, it saved just fine.

I believe this is just a coding issue somewhere in the saving routine. I am also getting this error and it is completely random.

The only consistent variable between the instances is that I can choose "Save As" and save my current project or page as a new name and it works fine. If I just click the Save button, or choose File... Save from the Menu, I get the error.

I also notice that these errors coincide with an odd graphic substituion problem when previewing pages. I won't detail that here without request as it is rather detailed. It involves arranging objects, and obliterating previews until resaving and reopening a browser.

Therefore there is also the outside possibility that the program is incorrectly assigning IMG_6 as IMG_7 -> which doesn't actually exist. Or it does, but the object properties do not match up as the object ID and assignments are not matching up properly anymore.

I am not sure why this is happening, but it is a concern to note. Thanks for being interactive on this software. I find it very useful for ripping out pages, then recoding for whatever else I want to do to it. CC has great stoofs.

Take care,
John

Although it SEEMS to be random John, I am certain that it is not. I am in the process of trying/logging steps that replicate the problem and there does seem to be some pattern to it all.

BUT the good news is, that if you do get this error, all is NOT lost. IF you select "save as..." and chose a new name, all of your changes will be saved. Is it pretty? No, but it is a "work around" until the devilish bug can be found and killed.
