Groups not staying grouped?

Hi All,
I'm using version 7.0 build 8 VSD, and I am encountering a recurring problem that someone may be able to help with.

I've made a "Header" that is used on all pages of a site. I've used an very unusual font as a logo (SWGamer from memory). As I realise plenty of computers won't have that font installed, I've allowed advanced text and dropped a shadow from the text. The text is on a filled shape and the shape is on another element. I realise thats a few things to have stacked up, but I don't think its any more than some of the templates I got with VSD. And IMHO it looks cooler than plain old text on a coloured background.

Anyway, if I don't "group" the items the text goes haywire once uploaded. If I do "Group" the items it displays (almost) perfectly.

BUT here is the weird part, it uploads and displays near perfectly the first time. But when I edit text or elements in the site body (NOT in the grouped header) and republish the site the "grouped" header goes haywire again (often on all or most of the pages). Though it still looks perfect in the VSD program.

The only way to fix the site is to go through every page and re group the header elements and upload it again. It's a big and frustrating job that happens almost every time I make minor changes to the site.

Anyone else having similar problems? Any solutions?

BTW. I realise the second page (products) has a completely different header, just giving someone else a few options to look at :)

That header is a bunch of stuff to place all together. Why don't you try putting it all together as a picture and post it? You'll need some kind of editing software, I like and use PrintMaster.
Bring each shape/letter into the program, assemble as you wish, then save as a .jpeg. Edit the picture using Microsoft Office Picture Manager to crop and size it. And compressing it would help too.

Ken, There is a new build out, build 11, which has fixes for some of the positioning issues. Download it and see if it helps.

Thanks for the responses and input.

Both excellent ideas. I'll try the upgrade first, if that doesn't fix the problem I'll have to go the jpeg route.

Though, I love the ease of creating stylish headers in VSD (using the buttonise and style features etc.) So I guess I'd create and group it in VSD then preview it, and "save picture as" (hope that makes sense :) ).

I was so bogged down with the problem that I didn't realy consider that untill Tim pointed it out, so thanks again :)

One thing I noticed, that you probably already know about anyway, but your 'Products' and 'Services' links are both pointed to the 'Products' page, at least on every page I checked.

I see you fixed the 'Services' link, or it was a glitch my end, but the cool mouseover effect you had going on with the menu is now gone. I liked it - so much that I was showing my wife to see if she wanted a similar thing on her site.

Hey Coqsy, I did realise there wasn't a services page at that stage, but I do appreciate you letting me know about it. It is easy to miss a link!

Thanks for the compliment on the mouseover thingy. The whole site is under construction still, and hasn't yet gone "live". I've only got it uploaded to one of our other domains at this stage for testing and to show some other people. Because VSD doesn't automaticaly update the navigation bar, I'm just running with the bare essentials untill I finalise the design.

You probably already know how to do that mouseover, but just in case... I just change the colour of the shaddow of the mouseover image from black to orange.

BTW. Good to have another Aussie on here :) And a Dirt Bike rider too. I'm a bike nut (WR400 motard, DRZ400 and a Triumph Speed Triple.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
