FTP Test passed. but Error occurred...

I put my correct FTP server parameters and correct remote folder name, however VSD gives me the following error while uploading:

"Error occurred while uploading"

My FTP test pass okay, see the messages:

- Testing server and logon ... OK
- Testing folder creation ... OK
- Testing Uploads ... OK
- Testing Downloads ... OK
- Testing file deletions ... OK
- Testing folder deletion ... OK

The whole site can be uploaded with Dreamveawer to that folder, however with VSD I get the error.

Why VSD is giving me upload errors if the Test works okay (As you can see above) , and uploading with other FTP programs is also okay ?

Hi Gloria
An answer often seen on here for this sort of problem is to ensure that passive mode is selected in your ftp settings.
My VSD will not upload properly if passive mode is not selected.

I am having the same "error occurred while uploading" message. I have the passive mode check. Has been uploading correctly. Any ideas?

Hiya Robert,

You say it's been uploading correctly before and just started not uploading correctly? Have you tried it with files that uploaded correctly before to make sure it's not a file issue? Also, check with your hosting server to make sure they haven't changed something on their end, as usually these things don't stop working out of the blue unless something has changed somewhere.

Have not changed anything I can think of.
I checked the connection test and am seeing these errors.

550 /inetpub/vsd.text/vsd text: The directory is invalid
425 Can't open data connection

My connection test was okay, and I used Passive mode, but at the time of uploading the VSD immediately fails giving me the error: "Error occurred while uploading"

I decided not to get crazy about this. I will use Dreamweaver as an FTP program to upload my pages. It works fine with this program.

Hiya Gloria,

You also should contact CC Support to see if it can be remedied, after all, why use extra programs for steps that this one should be doing if you don't have to? If it can't be fixed, well then obviously you have to hehe, but maybe it can be :)

Hi Gloria & Robert,

The "error occurred during uploading" message can be caused by several different things, but they all boil down to an interruption during the transfer process. First, make sure you've disabled all firewall applications on your system. Firewalls can block both outbound and inbound traffic. Next, try switching to the Passive Mode setting under Settings > FTP Settings > Advanced. Some servers will only allow connections and/or transfers if the FTP client is connected in a specific mode.

If you're still having problems after this, contact your host provider and ask them if there is a global timeout function that may be disconnecting the FTP client. If so, see if the host administrators can increase the timeout function to allow Visual Site Designer more time to upload.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
