I'm using VSD 7. I just became aware of the problem with overlapping text seen on monitors using non 96 DPI resolution after firing up a hi res notebook set at 125%. If I want to fix this problem so that the web site is seen properly by all resolutions what should I do? I assume it means going beyond VSD to the HTML? Hiring a pro?
I should add I'm aware of the fix of turning the text into pictures. I'm looking for a better fix where the text could be edited.
In building websites, design for your target market. Think of the kid of people that would do searches for your content. The demographics of the people finding your site will help you set a design standard that meets your needs, instead of the needs of others. Sure there are a few good old standard practices out there that most designers stick to, but where would the web be if we all stuck to standards?

I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Seems like a lot of people may have HD displays now. The display on this notebook is the default as received from HP. Any idea what percentage of viewers would be effected by this? I'm wondering if coffeecups html version would be the fix. Only problem is that I was lost when I briefly tried it before, must take awhile to be able to use with no prior training.
I just started using VSD and was using HTML2010 before that. I still use HTML 2010 but have become heavily relient on the speed at which I can build and manage websites with VSD. I do know some coding but have a full time job plus 4 boys and a wife and don't have the time right now to keep my coding knowledge up to date. VSD has given me the time to apply more applications to the websites that I'm building. I just purchased the SCCP and SCDP and am actively building a shop which would have never happen if I hadn't started using VSD. CC has a lot of resources at their finger tips. This forum is by far the best place on the net to get answers with experience behind them. Don't worry about resolution so much as it's beyond our control.

Hi CoffeeCupers. Two questions, how many hours does it take someone with no HTML experience to get up to speed to create a nice website? I've been using the Visual editor until now, just realized there is a problem with systems using non-96DPI font settings seeing jumbled text when viewing pages made in the Visual editor. Can creating the page in the HTML editor fix this problem?
Is there perhaps a way to import the Visual editor site into the HTML editor and start from there?

Moved this post here as it was started in a new thread again and apparently more assistance is still needed.

So THAT'S why the page disappeared on me while I was editing my reply!
I learned what I know of HTML coding from a "Do (Whatever) In 24 Hours" type book - and a lot of stuff from the the helpful CC community on these forums.
I don't know about the "24 hours" bit - they certainly weren't consecutive hours - it was after several months of trial & error that I got my 1st site looking the way I wanted it to (meaning: a very amateurish look).
At least with CC editor you will get the best possible start into the rewarding world of hand coding.
Visual editors use a proprietory file format and there're plenty of posts on other threads advising against porting it over - IMO you should start your site again from scratch.

I was writing a reply to CoffeeGuzzler's question last night when our electricity suddenly failed (it's snowing sideways here, and the electricity was gone for 6 hours!), And this morning I was looking to see if I could find the post again...
I agree with Zipper in that it would be better to start over again in the HTML Editor instead of porting over the site made with VSD. It's very frustrating trying to edit a complex page with the way VSD does the markup. (It CAN be done, but it's not for a novice.)
When I started off with html, I was able to have one page up and running after about three hours (back in 1996), but that was a very basic page, just some text, a picture and a mailto link.
I would recommend a book: http://www.sitepoint.com/books/html2/ to get you started, and also this website: http://www.w3schools.com/ . And do some simple exercises first, don't start right away with the website design of your dreams.

I don't have an answer here, but... I dont' think the main question was answered yet either, I think he needs to know if changing over from VSD to HTML Editor will fix the DPI issue he seems to be having with the site? I don't use VSD so I have no idea what it does or doesn't do to DPI issues. I don't recall any issues being done to that with the HTML Editor, but I suppose in the end it always depends on your code and what you do with a site.
Anyways, I think before he goes to all that trouble, it might be good to know if it will fix the problem he's trying to fix
This is why I moved the post here, since it was basically the same question, and in the end I'm not sure that question matters what program he's using

You more or less answered the question Jo Ann. It really depends on how you code your website in the HTML Editor. Just about anything can be accomplished if you know the correct markup that needs to be used.
