I still can't figure out the file structure of VSD on my computer --- looked at videos by Bruzer and search the help files but it is still not clear.

This is my file:
Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\EandMwebsite-v6_website
In that file is:
EandMwebsite-v6_website file folder
Files folder (has the images in it)
EandMwebsite-v6 105 kb Coffee Cup Visual Site Designer


Then if I click on the above "EandMwebsite-v6_website file folder" this is what is in it:

Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\EandMwebsite-v6_website\EandMwebsite-v6_website
Files folder (with all my pics)
all the pages listed separately

Boy! What am I doing wrong and can someone please explain this mess? Seems I have duplicate but don't know what to delete

Hi Kare,
Te file structure is when you save your design in VSD it will make a _website-v6 folder. In that folder will be all html pages and any flash you installed and another folder called "files" as you know holds only your images.This will be the same structure as it would be online ( on server).

Sense you have a website folder in a website folder I have to think you did a save into that website folder. My suggestion would be this. By default it's automatically saved in "My Document" so open your website in VSD, then "save as" but this time save it on your desktop. Then remove the website folder in "My Documents" - after removing that move the .vnu and website folder back into "My Documents" then go from there. Re-open your website -you may have to find a couple items you have installed in your site but you'll only have 1 website folder to deal with

I opened my website in VSD and then 'saved as' to the desktop. But what is it I should delete? -----Everything that is in the folder in My Documents?

Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\EandMwebsite-v6_website

Just leave this folder and delete everything that is in it? Then move the file back to this folder?

All I have on the desktop is the website no other files.

when you saved as you should see on your desktop a vnu file and your EandMwebsite-v6 folder correct?

now remove the old website folders that are in my documents, you know the ones with the same name.
then after that sldie the vnu and website folder thats on the desktop into my documents, now reopen it and see if all is good to go. But please back up before deleting.

Yes, dense --- have so many items on my desktop that I didn't see the EandM folder in addition to the vnu file! Got it now!.

One more question please ---

When I get around to uploading and putting the site online is it this whole folder that is uploaded?

what you will upload ( if your using an external ftp) is everything IN that folder. If your using the built-in ftp as I do, then that's what get's uploaded anyway. Using the built-in ftp has the advantage of you not forgetting to upload something and it also uploads your backup vnu file, when using another ftp you have to do that manually (the vnu file) for backup purposes.

Thanks for everything. Got my files back and figured out I think......... yes, it is much clearer now.

I do plan on using the built in ftp --- I have read several posts about that being the best option.

Well, this morning I worked on the site --- made a form and saved it and everything is fine-- previews ok.

Then went to MyComputer to check and see where all the files are that are associated with the form---- and I notice that I am back to square one as I related above.

This is the 3rd time that I have changed the file folder back to your suggestion but it keeps putting in an extra folder in a folder when I work on my site and then save it.

Why would it do this?

Been looking at the file structure some more and I realize that the

Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\EandMwebsite-v6_website

rather than inside it. My 'files' and all pages and flash are inside it. Should I move it inside and then delete everything outside of that folder.

If I did this all my files would be inside of the file folder which is where I think they should be. Don't know how the above file with the little protractor image got outside of the folder???
