Deteriorating Footer
I have a strange problem that has occurred a couple of times now on my website. It was built with VSD using one of your themes. The footer for each page is supposed to be a green grasslike border with "website themes by CoffeeCup Software" in white.
But each time I make some unrelated change to the website and re-publish it, the footer gets stretched out a little, it gets grainy and it looks worse and worse. Finally, the CoffeeCup tag line gets so pixelated it becomes unreadable. Nothing else on any of the other pages change like this footer does.
To repair it, I have gone back to the original theme files I downloaded and I go into the web site's folder on my machine and I delete the file I am uploading from and then cut and paste the "fresh" footer from the original files and that fixes it. The footer is once again sharp and clean. But it starts deteriorating each time I upload changes.
Any thoughts? Check out the footer for yourself - it's not as bad as it will get if I don't replace it soon.

Malcolm, I would try an update of VSD. Your using build 8 and were now on build 24.

I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Thanks Eric. But build? I'm fairly inexperienced with all this - it's CoffeeCup that makes me look like I know what I am doing. I know I upgraded from V6 to V7 a while back - do I need to update further? Thanks.

Being a jpg, I guess every time it is saved anew it deteriorates, being a lossy file format. The other thing I notice is that the image has been rescaled and so is not being used at its orignal size. If you click on the image information online you will see "958px × 119px (scaled to 959px × 134px)"
That scaling from 119px to 134px is inevitably going to create problems.

Malcolm-
I agree with all that Janys and Eric said so do those things first. I noticed the same deterioration effect several years ago myself and solved it by converting all my jpg images to PNG which aren't lossey, and rebuilding websites with those images. The PNGs are larger in file size which slows pages loading a tad but not enough to matter.
