Customer access to certain files for...

I thought I read something about customers having limited access to certain files on their site, just before VSD 6 was released. For example, to be able to change some images or perhaps some text modifications. Is this possible? Bottom line, if a customer wants to be able to change some photos or articles on their site, is their a way to accomplish this?

James,

VSD creates the files for the website and uploads those files. If you then modify those files, and use VSD again, the modifications will be lost. VSD saves everything into a .vnu file and that file keeps track of everything that VSD does for the site.

If you reference external files by name, the customer could change those files and keep the original name. I think that would work, but I have not tried doing that.

That seems a bit unsure, and if I re-upload the site from within VSD, (as you said) the changes would be lost. What I need is, if a customer has a particular photo or article that changes frequently, for them to be able to access and change that particular item. I guess it won't happen. Thanks

Hi James,
I think you and the customer must both have VSD as well as all the files VSD has made, and with the proper ftp settings the customer can make their own changes and upload from their end. BillR is correct as making any changes outside VSD will be lost on the next upload.
