Critical - Upload Issues

I have been fighting an issue since 6:30 last night.

VSD is not actually "saving" the files in the website so when I upload, nothing updates. I was on the phone and chat with Hostmonster for over 4 hours last night trying to figure out what was wrong. We originally thought it was the FTP program, since VSD showed it was saving and the preview worked. However, this morning, on Hostmonster's suggestion, I created a new page to upload and it didn't work. I also changed the name of one of the existing pages and, after having to "save as" since the homepage couldn't be saved(!), I checked the files -- the new page and the changed-name page are not showing.

What is up with this, how do I fix it? This site is my employer's main claim to getting business and it's broken.

Try pausing your anti virus program before uploading

OK. I have cleared the cache from the computer-- numerous times. I have paused the firewall. I even ran a bunch of cache tests and passed everything. I have changed the settings on my cache for both IE and firefox. I am not opening an older version of the software/my site; I always rename the site when there were updated versions of the software. The hosting company spent several hours with me, testing, changing file names, doing all kinds of stuff and felt strongly that the software was not saving the changes. I'm at my wits end.

Somebody please explain to me why this isn't working. I will attempt to send a zip file to tech support for them to look at, but in the meantime, I would appreciate any other ideas.

Are the web pages actually being created on your hard drive? You should be able to navigate to the folder where they're stored and open them in your browser locally and verify they've been updated by VSD. Then, if all else fails, you could upload them with a separate FTP client if the problem is the VSD built-in upload function.

Sorry if I've misunderstood your problem.

Yep...what Spinny said.

Also with the external FTP you can confirm that the files are being uploaded into the correct folders on the server.

Watch for any duplicate folders with the same names as some files might be going to that rather than the original one.

I have created the web pages on the hard drive and just opened the ones I recently changed locally. They do appear to have been changed/saved by VSD. I tried uploading with Filezilla but something blocked it, trying to remember the error message. Told me to check the network configuration or similar. Not sure, I've done so many things since then it's hard to remember exactly.

I'll try Coffee Cup Direct FTP and see if that does it. Thanks for your response!

Okay, that at least narrows down the problem a bit. You've established that VSD appears to be working correctly insofar as it's creating the web pages, and the fact you're having upload problems with Filezilla, too, points the issue away from VSD entirely.

Now it would seem to be an issue with your FTP, either settings on your end or something to do with your account on your host server. You should be able to pick any file at random, say an image or something to test with, and upload it to any place you want on your server. If not, that's the problem. Could your host provider's tech support talk you through configuring an FTP client they're familiar with and then uploading a test file?
