Win 7 (64bit) VSD (24) admin / compatability Win XP service pack 2

Thought I would put a shadow on some text (22 pages) Started off with it crashing after I had done up to page 10. Struggled up to page 18 with numerous crashes. Now does it every time I do this:
Highlight text-- Object-- Allow advanced Text ticked.......... crashes when I click OK

"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the application etc"

any ideas please.

We first recommend that you download the latest version of Visual Site Designer from our website dated May 5th, 2011. If you are still having problems with this version, please see the steps below.

This can happen even if you are running as an Administrator, and it is caused by Windows very strict security settings.

To fix this, right-click your Visual Site Designer shortcut icon and select Run as Administrator. This should properly launch Visual Site Designer for you. If it does, great! You can continue to launch the program in this way, or you can go a step further and configure the shortcut to always run as administrator. Here's how:

1. Right-click the shortcut icon, and click Properties.
2. Click the Compatibility tab.
3. Here, put a check mark by Run This Program as an Administrator.
4. Next, put a check mark next to Run This Program in Compatibility Mode For: and ensure Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 is selected.
5. Click OK.


If you continue having problems you may also need to set the application as an exception to Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) feature. Normally if this is the culprit, you'll get a little bubble along the taskbar notifying you, which will allow you to set the offender as an exception.

One last option that could be the cause of this, and related to the DEP feature, is User Account Controls. This is the large window that appears in Vista asking you to "Allow" or "Deny" access to functions within programs. You can turn this off within your Control Panel > User Accounts window, along the left-hand pane.

All three options let you control your system exactly how you want and give you full access to do/run anything on the computer.

Nope... still does it. I'm using version 7 build 24 that is the latest version I believe. Have always run in xp compatability mode and run as adminster. and just tried with with UAC switched off.

I would say look into your DEP settings next and make sure there is no conflict there. Also another thing to try is open your website and do a File > Save As and save your website to a new folder on your desktop. Restart VSD and open the newly saved site and try again.

I'm always "playing" with VSD and normally no prob. What I have done today is downloaded some windows updates.... anything here maybe that could be causing it.

Just tried the "save as" new name to desktop, opened VSD... still the same.

This could mean your registry settings have become corrupted somehow. What we will need to do is clear out all your registry settings allowing the software to default back to the initial settings. Please note that after doing this you will have to add your FTP information again.

Scott... Just tried a new page with text and clicking ok for advanced text... no problem. It is going wrong on my existing pages

Do you have any scripts on your existing pages?

No very little on them.
