Are img files tied to pages

I have missed or forgotten over time but the images that are on page 1 , are they separate in numbering to the images on page 2.
Or are all images numbered sequentially in one folder when published regardless of page number.
I hope this makes some sense,
Put it another way, can there be an image 1 on page 1 and an image 1 on page 4 that are different.
This all has to do with laying out a lot of images on different pages and knowing which is which.
Is there a naming style that others have here that works so if you look at the code you know the image in question. Can sub image folders be used?
Thanks for any help

I'm building my first website with VSD and I'm having some serious problems with scrambled pages. I don't understand what is being published to my site. I created button images and saved the images (ex: home.jpg, links.jpg) and put these images on each page that I built. The website and the uploaded pages show each web page has very odd images that are not what I built. This is difficult to explain but the images on my home page are chopped into blocks of new images named IMG_1.JPG, IMG_2.ING, etc. all the way to IMG_124.JPG !

So I have about 40 images that I built and more than a hundred images on the website - so far! Plus, these images are not the images I created. They are chopped up pieces of the website and, when I load a page, some of them appear scrambled.

Please expain what I'm doing wrong. I've used HTML Editor for years and I don't understand what I'm seeing in the code on these pages at all. I'm uploading a sample of what the menu looks like. The entire page is a chopped up mess.

You are doing nothing wrong. VSD is a WYSIWYG program and it renders parts of your page in different ways depending on whats there. If you have several objects or images all touching each other or any special affects applied to them VSD takes a snap shot of the area to render it on the webpage. Kinda like a screen shot if you will. Don't be alarmed by the extra images.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.
