will this keep the links intact? When I look at the files that VSD creates in HTML Editor, the links are empty.

I'm sure you know that html editor and VSD are 2 completely different programs, sso to edit VSD with Html editor is a no-no to say the least. so if your links are empty, fix everything, check everything in VSD, in preview make sure they all work. If so then upload with the ftp program you have chosen, if not then fix and preview til they are correct. save before uploading and all with be fine.

wahh..

yeah I know. I guess I just ASSumed that the html files created were just html files. Not html files dependent on VSD. They look fine in preview - all the links are there. Just that whatever is on the harddrive has empty links. Or at least, appears to in HTML Editor. I haven't looked at them in a different editor.

So.... um.

now I can't get filezilla to work. It's been suggested by CC folks that the timeout on the server side is too short. The following might support that. Firewall doesn't *seem* to be the issue but...

Get this from filezilla
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

this is so frustrating and I long for the days when I just clicked on "upload" in my old ftp program and up they went. Which was yesterday I might add. If I copy all the files in the VSD website directory to my old pc and upload them with that old ftp s/w, will they work? I'm going to try at any rate.

you will most likely have to transfer, the VSD program, all your images, and the folder they were in when you added whatever into VSD, meaning just copying your website files over to the old PC won't cut it, as you will get errors popping up looking for this and that. have you tried passive in filezilla or direct ftp?

would you like to try one of my servers that i'm not using just to see if it's you or VSD?
if so email me and we'll set it up...

yes. passive. it gets in,
connections, logs in just fine, then aborts.

I'm wanting to pull my hair out.

Status: Resolving address of www.wargamer.com
Status: Connecting to 64.111.28.100:21...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
(blah blah blah)
Command: TYPE I
Response: 200 Type set to I.
Command: PASV
Error: Disconnected from server: ECONNABORTED - Connection aborted
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

A quick test reminded me that even with all the files i nthe right place, my old ftp s/w didn't take filenames over 8.3 so it converts them to gobbledygook.

I'm fried and stressed. we have customers. Our server is a "freebie" of sorts and responses from the folks who run it are typically long in coming. So if this is a timeout thing it may be days in which case I'll reinstall the old website. dang it!

edit: the angry kitty feels more like your icon right now.

Well, I said of sorts. It's actually a mutually beneficial relationship - they promote our games, we promote their site. But I'm getting really close to that answer frankly.

Well, I have to come here and to CC folks with hat in hand.

This was my fault. I uploaded from my desktop PC and it worked. Yay!

I was trying to upload wireless and that just doesn't cut it with big files like that, I guess.

So I suppose now I have to slap myself silly.

Thanks for all the input. And sorry for the upheaval.

Guess what!? I'm having the same issue again! I added two new thumbnail galleries and can't get the changes to upload!

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
