The HTML Editor 12 and greater  installation is pretty darn smooth, but there may be occasions where the previous version of the HTML Editor was not uninstalled cleanly. You'll want to ensure that all the old stuff is cleared out in order to get the ultimate experience. To clean up your system and to remove the old files/folders, follow these instructions.

Correcting Installation issues from previous versions:

  1. Right click on the CoffeeCup HTML Editor icon and selected "Troubleshoot compatbility" and follow through the process. If this fixes the issues, Great! If not, move on to step 2.
  2. Go into Windows Control Panel > Remove Programs and uninstall all versions of CoffeeCup HTML Editor.
  3. If there were no errors, proceed to the Automated Cleanup process. If there was an error, go to the manual cleanup.
  4. We need to reinstall the previous version. For this step we are simply going to re-install the trial version of the HTML Editor 12 to put back any missing files. Download the file here.
  5. Go into Windows Control Panel > Remove Programs and uninstall all versions of CoffeeCup HTML Editor.
  6. Now you just need to delete a specific folder in the your Windows user account. You'll need to configure hidden files and folders to be visible in order to access this folder.
Windows XP
  • Open the My Computer folder. Select Tools > Folder Options > View tab.
  • Scroll down and select Show Hidden Files and Folders. It's also a good idea to uncheck Hide Extensions for Known File Types.
  • Delete the C:\Documents and Settings\[User-Account]\Application Data\CoffeeCup Software\ folder.
Windows 8/7/Vista/10
  • Open the My Computer folder. Select Organize > Folder and Search Options > View tab.
  • Scroll down and select Show Hidden Files and Folders. It's also a good idea to uncheck Hide Extensions for Known File Types.
  • Delete the C:\Users\[User-Account]\AppData\Roaming\CoffeeCup Software\ folder.
  1. Download the latest version of the HTML Editor from our website and install it. (registered users)
  2. Download the latest trial of the HTML EDitor from our website and install it (trial users)

Now you'll just need to clean up those files left over from the version 12 install.

Automated Cleanup

  1. Download file cleanup utility here: https://www.coffeecup.com/files/binaries/Editor-Cleanup.exe
  2. Place the Editor-Cleanup.exe file in the correct folder (see below).
  3. Double-click Editor-Cleanup.exe to start the process. If you are given a prompt to continue, select Yes. You will briefly see a DOS prompt dialog box appear and a list of files being deleted. When that is complete, you are all set.
