VSD 5.9.4 - Images have disappeared?...

Hi,

If anybody can help I'd really appreciate it...

I have been using VSD 5.9.1 successfully and have created a website that uploaded and looked just fine. I went back into VSD to add a few extra pages and they all uploaded with errors. I decided that perhaps it was time to upgrade to 5.9.4. I uninstalled 5.9.1, restarted the computer, installed the new program 5.9.4, restarted the computer again. I then removed the website and uploaded the website again. When I went in to take a look, almost every image had disappeared and was replaced with those scary red crosses! I don't know what's happened.

I have sent an email to software support but I thought that I'd also post here in case somebody else has encountered this problem and it's an easy fix! (Maybe I'm a bit hopeful, lol).

The website is www.bumpybuns.com.au
(It's a cloth nappy site before your mind takes you elsewhere :) - I know what you're thinking!)

I'd appreciate any thoughts from anybody who takes the time to respond.

Sharon wa there anything that showed up when you first opened VSD 5.9.4 like perhaps it asked to find certain images or anything? Usually an "x" indicates that an image is missing (not located where it should be) which is usually in the files folder of your websites folder. Can you see the images in preview? I would try a couple things 1 would be going to settings and click on "re-sync" and let it upload , it that didn't work would try using the "add files" also under settings and see if that works.
worth a shot.

Thanks for your advice Bruce :)

My website looks fine in the preview. No problems at all. I clicked on re-sync and that has made a big difference! YAY! Thank you!

Many pages and pictures are still not working though. They are pages where I have used the "duplicate page" function or I have copied and pasted images from one page to another. But it's not totally consistent. Sometimes images have copied fine but many have not!

I haven't got any image files stored in VSD as I have just used the picture tool to put images on my page directly from "My Pictures" files. (I just never move these files about).

Any other ideas? I'm starting to think I'm going to have to see what images are missing on the published website and try to insert them all again. I didn't want to do that though because then I'm not solving the problem, I'm just using a bandaid. You know what I mean?

Have you got any other ideas Bruce?

Oh, by the way, No - no error messages saying that VSD could not find my images. It's something that is happening in the uploading process I think.

looks to me that your links to the ebaypics are whats missing , you may want to check that coding make sure it's correct, or like you said re-install those images.might be best idea.for example:
<div class="Object14692"><img src="files/Polar Fleece Nappy Liners.jpg" width=162 height=114 border=0></div> the way you have Polar Fleese Nappy Liners, maybe your server doesn't like the fact that you have the words spaced out like that, try keeping your images names one word like PolarFleeseNappyLiners.jpg and see how that goes then do a re-sync and let us know ok. thanks.

Hi Bruce,
Thanks for your advice Bruce. I didn't know that about namimg the files without a space!

I haven't had a chance to action your advice yet but I had another question for you (or anybody else taking a look in here).

If VSD gets stuck uploading an object or image, can that disrupt the upload of everything thereafter? In other words, if I can work out where VSD is having a problem uploading, should every item after that work. It seems that all the pages are uploading fine up to a certain page, and everything after that goes crazy.

If this is the case, is there a quick way to work out which image or object is causing the problem?

I'll keep you busy writing in this forum Bruce! lol.

Hi Sharon, you can tell whats being uploaded at the time it is, you just need to watch the upload and read for example: http://kellyinfo.com/web/uploaded83.png
this shows whats being uploaded. If it stops on you you'll be able to see (whatever it is) there.

When it does stop no further pages will be uploaded, so you may wish to try after a few minutes, the server could be busy, or just plain ole slow, I see your impatients is showing through.lol

I to had this problem just this morning and found that had I given it enough time and waited it went on as normal, but I uploaded an swf file.

IN the past and still now if I see what is holding up the upload for 2 tries, if it's an image or object, I just minimize VSD, and go to My Documents Folder, then to my website folder, then to the files folder, which holds all the images, and delete that image. then I maximize VSD and click save, then reupload and all is fine. If I make a change 1 page i'll use the upload button 2 or more I'll resync it. give that a try see if it helps you and Greg.... Good Day Madam! :)

IF IT GOES CRAZY THEN TRY USING THE RESYNC! :)

Thanks Bruce,
I sat and watched. It stopped at IMG_754.jpg . As this is obviously a way in which VSD has renamed one of my files, I don't know which file this is. Have you got any ideas as to how I can work this out?

754.jpg Sharon is nothing so i would open VSD and minimize it,then go to my documents and open my website folder, there you'll see a folder named files. look for IMG_754 and delete it. now minimize that and maximize VSD and save. now upload. if you would like a visual please let me know.

Guess What? It worked!
I deleted IMG_754.jpg . Saved then resynced. Again another "error in uploading" message came up. I deleted the image that it stopped at. Saved, then resynced again. "Your website was published successfully" was the last message I received and all is well again on the site. YAY!
Thank you for your help Bruce :)
