Randell, The Stream is free with your purchase. You might as well take advantage of what CC is offering. You can keep your own host for everything else then embed the stream script into your page to have it show. Setting up a blog with the features that CC has is no easy task in any website. I would use it until you can write all the custom scripts.:)
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

I also do NOT want to ever use the S Drive. I want my own data on my own hosting account dependent on only me and my hosted site.

Comment: When Serif decided to add there own drive and then to make their customers dependent on that drive it drove me away from using their product. You may think it is a good marketing tool to make the customers stay with you because you now own their data on your drive, it is not! We the customers have the right to put our data where we can control and own that data.

How do I code a blog WITHOUT using the S Drive,
Randall

We do not force S-Drive on anyone and it is not our goal to "hold you hostage". By that rationale, anything you add to the web in one location or another would have that problem. Don't be so negative. ;)

If you do not want to use ANY 3rd party service, you need to start reading some books. ;)

Here are some to get you started:

Don't be so negative - I just pointed out a fact.

What happens when a year from now I find I want to change to a different vendor. You have my historical data and if I move it is lost. I am just saying I want to own my data, not you on your computer.

Thanks for pointing out I need to start reading books, you are right and I started by asking you a direct question as a starting point.

I assume by your answer that CC does not have a solution outside of using the S Drive of CC.

Negative, (especially for a VP) you need to look internal and potentially see how negative your answer really was,

You can export your data out of Streams right now with Power Post allowing you to do whatever you like with the content. With any service on the web you use, this is a potential issue. Heck, it could also be an issue with your hosting provider where you host your website. They could simply shutdown one day and then you are in the same situation.

You need to ultimately trust the companies you work with. If there is no trust, then I guess you are right not wanting to use the service.

I would not say he was negative, I call that practical.

Hi Randall,

I use S-Drive streams for an embedded blog at http://blog.fixtronix.ie and I have the data on my local machine thanks to Power Post ( http://www.coffeecup.com/power-post/ ). So if you want to be in total control of your data, but also have extreme flexibility, running your blog using S-Drive is the best option on the Internet, in my opinion.
You can update your blog from anywhere: https://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles/822/.

CoffeeCup, unlike many before them and many yet to come, are honourable, friendly, supportive & they give you userID and password protected access to your own data. Coffeecup have been in business since 1996 and they're not going anywhere anytime soon. So, before you entrust your data to your ISP or another blog host (who will control and limit your flexibility more than CC ever will), consider the facts. I speak as a CC software user from 1997-2012.

Your blog data is and always will be your data and when you use Power Post, you can never (ever) lose your data.

Hi Kristi,

A simple solution: use an IFrame. I use it all the time to show another site (your blog) inside VSD. How you should do this: search these forums and the internet...

Success, John

David Smyth, Please help me to better understand about blogs. I clicked on your link and checked out your blog and think that it is great. I clicked on your home pg link and looked at it but there was no link to your blog. Why does the site not have links to the blog? I do not at all understand this...
How are blogs addressed in Google webmaster tools and analytic s. they are not web sites or properties how do they establish SEO or indexing? Seems that being linked to the site in both directions would be beneficial.

I am thinking about creating my first blog. My understanding now stands that the Blog utilizes the sites addressing structure as per url but does not reside on the site folder of the S-drive but in the Streams section of the S-drive. So I guess that it is part of the site as far as google webmaster tools and analytics are concerned. Since I will be the only person contributing to the blog I could probably put it on the site folder of the S-drive with all of the rest of the sites content. Is this a correct understanding?
Guess that my sites blog will more or less be for my putting up painting contractor insider good to know stuff. How things really are and were in the industry and why, kind of in that vein.
