How to Publish

I had an issue with publishing today that I thought was solved but when I checked all the pages I have a jumbled up mish mash....it's 5:30 and I'm TIRED. I just want to publish this and get it over with.

Please give me some tips on what could be wrong. I've fixed the registry, changed the ftp password, saved the site with another name, restarted my computer, all the usual stuff......including turning off my firewall. any ideas?

I'm too tired to run any new programs right now so something easy please. Thanks.

It sounds like your files have gone out of sync. Here is what I would like you to do.

1. Go to the Publish Menu and select FTP Account Settings and select your FTP Account.

2. Verify that all information is correct and the Remote Folder path is not empty. Typically you would enter in a / , /public_html or /www here but you need to confirm with your hosting provider what the correct path is. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THIS PATH IS CORRECT.

3. Go to the Publish Menu and select Choose a Publishing Destination and select your FTP Account and then click Save.

4. Finally, go to the Publish Menu and select Re-Sync Website.

With any luck, everything should be back to normal.

I've closed the other thread that is basically answering this same question and here is the link to it so that the information is not lost that has already been tried. Please try to keep your posts to one per topic so people aren't having to read multiple posts of the same topic and multiple answering of the same topic. (For topics you start that is, not for topics you post in. :)

What did you set the root folder path to? Remember it CANNOT be blank. Also, did you clear your browser cache?

I apologize, I won't ever do that again!!!!!!

I've tried everything that you wrote in the other thread, and changing my password, clearing cache, restarting computer, putting everything possible in the path and leaving it blank, fixing the registry, saving as with a new name and closing the program and reopening, uninstalling and reinstalling and I must be missing something because I still can't publish.

I've had VSD since 2009 so not sure maybe it's windows 8? anymore ideas? :|

What did you set the root folder path to? Remember it CANNOT be blank. You also cannot guess here. It must be accurate.

It can never, ever be blank. ;)

I would login to your server with an FTP client and make note of the path and use that in VSD. If you don't see the changes then you uploading to the wrong folder.

Call me crazy...but I disagree! I use GoDaddy exclusively and have never had a problem publishing, and the Remote Folder is always blank. Been doing it for years . . .Of course this ONLY works if you're publishing to the ROOT, and may only be applicable to GoDaddy . . .And to take that further, I have a Shared Host Linux account.
