An error has occured in the script......

Why when I link to a page in IE7 from VSD do I get a message that says "An error has occured in the script on this page". Then it gives a line number, char number, error-object expected, code 0, and the url of the page, then asks if I want to continue running script on this page.

What have I done and what can I do to correct this?

This also happens when I try to print an email.

Thanks for any suggestions. Sarah

Hi Sarah,
Can you give us a link to the page where this happens? The most likely cause is a link with spaces, or special characters, or a script problem, like a .js file or something out of place. It's really difficult to narrow it down without seing the web page or the codes.

Troubleshooting:
Try taking off any fancy stuff, like a flash form or movie and see if that's the cause....make sure to save a backup of your files first so you don't mess up a page by mistake. Does this only happen in "preview" or does it also happen when your pages are loaded to a server?

Hi Cliff, thank you for responding so quickly. Well, I don't have the site up online yet, hopefully by today or tomorrow. The error thing happens in preview. I put the url of the page from the internet that I want to link to and then in preview this happens, sometimes and sometimes not. Then when I click on a link from their website it happens again. However, if I go online to their website, it never happens, so am figuring it is something wrong on my computer. ??? I will try and get it online today, if you would like to take a look. Maybe it won't happen after it is online. Thanks, I'll write back after I get it up. Sarah

Hi Sarah...something to check. You say it happens in preview, and not all the time? Sounds like a "save" issue. Some files, when altered, won't show in preview mode until you have saved all the files that were changed. Changing a javascript file, or php file without saving will cause the same thing...error codes or things not displayed. Once saved, the changes should show. .xml files will have the same issue. Good Luck

hi Cliff, thanks for your suggestions. I always save after I change soemthing, but, maybe that's it. It doesn't seem to be happening anymore. I saved and then saved again, just for good measure. Now it is online and does not happen online at all. the url is http://www.kent.lwvmd.org. thanks for your help. Sarah
