I have 2 Drupal sites at http://www.HotDrupal.com
http://buckeyelake.org -and- http://davebeall.com
I know the server tech, he builds real nice servers. It is a managed and shared drupal optimized vps. I thought about getting a dedicated co-located or a slice, but I have enough to do now. And they don't have a T1 line available here at my shop, or I would have my own servers.

*pretends she has a clue what you're talking about and mumbles some gibberish to chime in* LOL

Just wanted to say thanks to you guys again for helping me get my head around this, this old brain doesn't always allow me to stuff new concepts in it unless I bonk it enough and move old things over LOL. Your efforts are most appreciated :)

dedicated=my own server box that serves MY stuff only
co-located=my own server box that I build and send to a data center where they stick it on the server rack and plug it in to their backbone
T1 line= high speed data line from the phone company
shared=many web sites are hosted on one server
vps=virtual private server
managed vps=the server tech takes care of all the Apache updates and upgrades and any other items that need attention

I assume this means you have things all working as you want them.
If so, great.
If not, lets get some details and get crackin..

It's all in the works, but I think I got the gist of how it all works now so when I get to that point I will most definitely ask more questions if I get stuck :)

Thanks for the rundown on the terms, the VPS was what I wasn't familiar with for the most part, but now I know what the term stands for, but what is a "virtual" private server?

A virtual private server (VPS, also referred to as Virtual Dedicated Server or VDS) is a method of splitting a server. Each virtual server can run its own full-fledged operating system, and each server can be independently rebooted.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_private_server

basically one server box is split or divided into many independent servers

One day I got a computer, another day I thought, hmm I need a website--
blame it all on CoffeeCup and the HTML editor.. What the heck is HTML?
Ever since that day, one thing leads to another.. :/

BTW, I'm not real good with servers yet.
But I have one in my office that I built and I play with it when I get in the mood for command line stuff. It is getting easier with time and sometimes it scares me when I actually remember commands and how to configure things.. I was late compared to many people getting into computers.. It's been an uphill learning curve ever since.

The reason VPS is so popular among reseller hosting providers like myself and Dave is because it gives us our own little area of the server so that we can host people. Contrastingly, when you sign up with a host (say you Jo Ann), you are using a server with a lot of other people. The VPS optimized is crazy fast with over 99.99 percent upload time. I don't have to worry about it getting sluggish or crashing a lot. For the price its a great deal. I only need to have on average 2.5 clients to break even for the year, and most clients are residual income - every year they come back. If you ever want to join forces let me know. I have been talking to some people in the forum about partnering with them. They develop and I host type stuff.

Anyhoot, despite my digression, I hope that the VPS thing made sense.

Thanks Eric,

For the info and the offer. I have yet to decide which way to go as my brain is branching in so many directions lol. I don't hae a lot of server side experience, but I do already have a partner (much younger guy that understands a lot better than I do on many things, just he's not always around to ask questions as he's planning his wedding for next month and been real busy), and we have a reseller account already that we've been planning to use also. We've been such procrastinators on that, but mostly because I don't think either one of us is real super knowledgable about the workings of a hosting server and such and so it takes a bit of time to learn it all. He learns it easier than I do, but doesn't have as much time as I do so I've decided we're going to do this now and start working on it.

I most definitely appreciate your offer, and who knows, it could happen. But in the meantime I guess we gotta figure out just what it is we want to do first :)
