Remember, this is only the first full release of Web Image Studio! There’s still much to come in future releases—all of which are free upgrades for those of you who already own the application.
Web Image Studio is a program that we designed to fill a gap: There wasn’t a product on the market that makes editing web graphics a truly simple task. It was our mission to create one that specializes in web graphics without requiring a difficult user interface. In other words, we aimed to create a product that allows you to create and customize your own web graphics without having to learn an incredibly complicated program.
The easiest way to do this is by using a vector graphics editor. Vectors and bitmaps are very different things: Vectors draw images using coordinates and color information, while bitmaps are just a grids of pixels. This means that if you zoom in on a vector graphic (.svg, .wif), it never loses quality, but if you zoom in on a bitmap (.jpg, .png, .gif) it becomes pixilated. You can read more about the difference between these two types of files here:

Most vector graphics programs are massively difficult to use, so Web Image Studio fills this gap, and we’re very happy with the result! Because vector graphics are relatively simple, we can do stuff like easily swapping out colors or adjusting lines after they’re drawn.
Then we noticed something else: There didn’t seem to be a vector graphics editor that ALSO processes bitmaps! We realized that we could accomplish both goals within the same program and set out to include an easy-to-use image editor that would specialize in making simple customizations with striking results. This is just one of the upgrades included in the full version of Web Image Studio, but it’s one of the upgrades that we’re most proud of.
We don’t yet have a text rotation/angle skewing tool, unfortunately, or an easy way to work with image transparencies. These features have proven very difficult to implement, and rather than delay the release of the program by six months just to include text rotation, etc., we’re going to be working toward including them in a future release—and remember, if you own Web Image Studio now, you’ll be able to upgrade for free later.

Colors from images don’t appear in the color palette because bitmaps can contain literally millions of different colors. Replacing colors in bitmaps doesn’t work quite as simply as it does with vectors, which is exactly why we created the “Pop” effect in the Image Editor. Take a look at the “Make your photos pop!” section of this page for a quick tutorial on color replacement in images:

Also, we elected to not include undo/redo buttons in the toolbar because we didn’t want to clutter it with icons. You can still use the Edit menu to access these options, or use the tried-and-true keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y) to quickly reverse change. What do you all think: Would you rather have these buttons in the toolbar?
We love to hear your suggestions and concerns about our products! It helps us determine what is really important to our customers, and lets us know which features on our “wish list” we want to work toward including next. Thanks for the input!
