Our company standard browser is Firefox. As such we do not maintain IE beyond version 6.

I tried to install the demo of the new form builder, only to have the installer pop up and tell me...

You need to have installed Internet Explorer 7 or higher to run this application.

How to I use the new form builder without having to maintain the latest version of IE?

You cannot. IE 7 is required to use the software.

Why rely on a DYING browser such as IE6? Microsoft has been counting down the demise of IE6 for some time now: http://www.ie6countdown.com/#map If you look down at the bottom center of that page, it has a link to help "Educate" those who haven't made the move away from it yet, it plays on the old saying "Friends don't let friends..." Aside from limiting your ability to view a site made under more 'modern' standards, there's also the security issues that you are subjecting yourself to.

@Phil,
You misunderstood. We no longer use IE, we use Firefox. Therefore, we don't even bother updating IE anymore.

Also, info contained in the URL from Scotts post above states...

For installing the software on your local computer, you need Windows XP/S3+, Vista or Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 7+.

@Scott,
Thanks for the link. However, it would be really helpful to everyone if this information was actually available from the Web Form Builder product page at http://www.coffeecup.com/web-form-builder/

The only 'requirements' listed on that page is Runs On: Windows 7, Vista, XP (I just checked again to make sure I didn't miss it.)

With IE steadily losing market share, it would be nice to have a software package that didn't rely on it being present just to install.

It is not that the program itself uses Internet Explorer. There are just certain DLL's and OCX's that are only included with IE7 and higher. Even if you don't use IE at all, you should still install the latest versions because of all the security fixes that the later browsers have. Keeping IE6 installed is just begging for trouble. ;)

Why can't your software run using .Net? Do Microsoft have shares in your company? I run XPPro SP3+ with IE removed and only run Firefox as a browser. I have no intention of having IE on my computer ever! So if I cant use your software because of ridiculous dependancies do I get a full refund?

How are you going to make sure your site renders properly in IE if you don't have it installed on your pc? I test with 5 different browsers and IE is usually the one I need to make adjustments for. After all IE is still a major player. Just because IE is installed doesn't mean you need to use it.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

We don't directly use IE itself, but we do use some controls that come with the IE installation. I would think that as a web developer, you should have IE installed along with all major browsers just for testing. You don't have to use IE, you just have to have it installed.

These requirements are also posted on our website at http://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles/ … m-builder/

Also, looking at your account, you have not placed an order since 2009 which means you don't even own Web Form Builder. So, NO REFUND FOR YOU! :)

Microsoft includes IE with the XP install, The whole internet access files are all tied up. Without them a lot of programs like ftp's for instance will fail. It is part of the fabric of the operating system. I update IE even though I seldom use it as Scott says.
