I have a unique situation. The only page of my website (created by VSD) that will be viewable by the public will be the homepage. The remaining pages will be membership only pages, protected by username and password in the .htaccess file. If I put the homepage page ID as some keyword, and not "index.html" as most websites have as their homepage, then visitors will get a listing of pages in the website (right?)

So how do I improve SEO? I will put the Google and Yahoo code into my header (I don't understand the long skinny HTML box with VSD...won't that code show up on the page itself ?) and will put more of a description of the website into the Page Title.

Doesn't password protected pages prevent them from being discovered by spider and crawlers ? Also, I'm not sure if the Sitemap will be applicable to a website where most of the content is password protected..

Currently my page shows up on page 3 of Google. This might as well be on Mars ;). (www.physicianslitigationsupport.com)

I know...that's a lot of questions. Thanks for your help.

I only use the html box to put yaho and google verification in so i have a visual on it, NO it does not show up on website, but its visible to me , and its not necessary to do it that way, but useful for the forgetfull amongst us,

As for SEO, my own personal thoughts would be to break up the home page into a few sub pages

put the main opening introduction onto the index page with suitable heading and keywording to match the content

then another page containing more of for instance : Professional Liability Insurance for physicians so if someone types into google " advice on liability insurance for physicians " the keywording and heading would be more relevant to that search criteria and send them to that page.

physicianslitigationsupport.com/liabilityinsurance.html

Thanks Viv, Do you know if a sitemap is useful for password protected sites, where most of the content will not be viewable to non-members ?
