HTML Editor/Auto-Format of Header

Does anyone know how to disable the auto-format feature in the HTML editor? When you switch from code to visual editor, CC inserts the default header and erases all of my changes. I love this program but this feature is driving me crazy. What am I missing?

Chris

PS: I have suggested to honcho that on the next mod they include a "none" option in the choice of file formats. I love you guys, but duh!

It's unavoidable apart from just not using wysiwyg.

Hiya rc,

You're missing the part that you are really not supposed to be using both of the editor types. Unfortunately HTML Editor is not built to use both, it's built to use one or the other. If you need to use the visual editor part, then you need to stick with that and not use the code editor part at all on the pages you're using visual editor. The code will change anytime you swap them back and forth as they use different types of code setups.

If you're comfy with code editing I would suggest you stick with that part and disable the view of the visual editor all together or visa versa. I would actually suggest the Visual Site Editor in stead of the HTML Editor if the Visual type of editing is what you are needing.

The HTML Editor does have a built in Previewer that you can use by hitting F12 at any time which allows you to see your changes in the code as you make them. Slows the process down just a bit with hesitations of loading the changes, but it is quite handy indeed. Although you cannot edit anything on that preview window, you can at least see your changes pretty quickly that way.

Hope that helps :)

I have two tabs....on the left the code tab and on the right the Preview tab so I just tab between the two to see any changes made by code changes...very quick and easy and no delay.

I don't bother with the split screen option as the constant movement in the preview screen using the split screen method is very distracting but tabbing between the two works really well.

tass - by default there are only those two tabs... The third tab has to be turned on manually by the user. BUT as Jo Ann mentioned, this can cause problems IF the user wants to switch between Visual and Code editing. It is HIGHLY recommended to NOT switch back and forth between those.
As far as Previewing, I (like you) usually just use the Preview tab. However I do find some times that using F12 Split Window Previewing is most convenient. Such as when I'm trying to fine tweak a color or sizing selection. Gotta say, the more I play the more I LOVE the HTML Editor :D.

Yep Phil I agree with what Jo Ann said...just commenting that you don't need to hit F12, just the Preview tab and no waiting no delay :)

I love HTML Editor too...I use it more than any other product now.
