Can't Unsubscribe from a thread?

I unsubscribed from a thread earlier this morning (NZT) and then an hour or more later, I got this:

You are subscribed to the thread "Suggestions for software" and there is a new post. Go check it out!

I clicked on the link, and the button said "subscribe" not "unsubscribe", so clearly the process of unsubscribing was completed. Why am I still receiving email notifications? NOT getting thyem is the whole point of unsubscribing, na?

I have just received ANOTHER "You are subscribed to the thread "Suggestions for software" and there is a new post. Go check it out!" email. I do sincerely apologise for having stupidly assumed that pressing the unsubscribe button meant that I would be unsubscribed. Since "unsubscribe" here does not mean what I thought it meant, I am asking for someone here to make sure that email notifications to the thread from which I "unsubscribed" are no longer sent to me.

Make that three! I have just received ANOTHER email notification from the thread I am supposedly unsubscribed from. It doesn't show in my "Manage Subscriptions" page either, so there is nothing else I can do. I just hope that eventually someone can fix this for me. I am, as they say, most definitely NOT holding my breath.

Stuart,

Is it possible that these messages were sent before you unsubscribed and that you are just now receiving them? Could you please post the actual link that it is sending you?

We'll be happy to help, we just need more info.

No, all the messages in question were sent after I unsubscribed. This is confirmed by the fact that I have just now received YET ANOTHER one. It is now nine days since I carefully followed the procedure that allegedly would stop these emails being sent, yet still they come. For a software development company, this is not a good image.

Thanks!

That is the second one today. All are exactly like this one, except the post URL changes of course.

I just subscribed to this thread and I'll try unsubscribing. Maybe I'll get to share your misfortune. ;)

Ideally we wouldn't get a notification to our own post submissions, but that would help explain why you have received 3 (mine being the 4th) emails today about this thread. Perhaps there's a glitch in the Matrix, and our man Neo...err J will catch it. I've probably subscribed to a few hundred threads but never unsubscribed. I guess I'll see how that goes. Perhaps for your sanity, Stuart, we should stop replying in this thread and start a new one (that hasn't been subscribed to) since it seems to be driving you mad. :P

It is no big deal deleting the email notifications, but it does seem like less than optimal advertising if a company that makes web development software can't manage subscriptions to its own webforums. ;)

Adam - Thanks for your feedback. I will find out what's happening, I just need to collect enough data to get a solid idea of what may be happening.

Stuart - what email address is receiving these emails?

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
