Take your time with that coupon update Scott, and no doubt it'll be hotly anticipated.

I concur Will, that an expiry condition of some sort is required to make coupons effective -- i'e it subconciously tells the consumer to buy early, or lose out when it's gone. Personally, I prefer an expiry condition that is based on the number of times a coupon can be used, instead of a date. Creates more urgency.
My tee shirt site http://www.teedojo.com, warmly and fuzzily done with SCC + SCD. I kinda like it even if I've yet to sell any shirts! Hah!

Catch me and say hi!. I don't bite, but I will help you with your website so you can kickstart your web presence today.

Will, my friend. I am shocked :o Nearly all open source cart programs have some sort of coupon module that allows for discounts. Its almost a staple for a cart program.

In the meantime we are stuck creating little member areas and stuff. :(

yuck yuck yuck.

Bring on the coupons man, bring on the coupons. :D

Yes I agree the coupons are a most needed feature, but I do hope when it's released that it will encompass all of our coupon needs rather than just 1 here and 1 there so that it's fully functional when that update is done. I know there are a lot of ways to do them but the main ones I can think of that will for sure be needed are:
    * Limited # of days coupon
    * Specific date(s) coupon
    * Limited # of uses coupon
    * Unlimited use coupon (for those you wish to have a permanent discount rather than having to create a separate shop for them)

These are the 4 most basic and needed setups for the most part. As for making sure it's setup nice for the shop owners to use it easily without problems, I have confidence that CC has already taken that part into consideration as that is their main way of creating software for us here.

Now that I think about it CC has a coupon module right here on their site. When you go to order you have a coupon code box. hmmmm. :/

I wouldn't be surprised if their own internal shopping cart software--and their forum--are rather "high maintenance" in that they're crafted, installed and maintained by expert coders. Far, far cry from a product you can throw over the fence for use by the unwashed masses out here--or so I'm guessing.

My other cart software has an extremely sophisticated coupon module built in, but I've never used it on my trading sites and never will. :)

I don't get discounts in the supermarket, I don't get discount at the gas station, I don't get discount in the pub, I don't get discount if I go out for a meal..... Am I going to discount products that sell successfully all over the world.... What do you think?? :|

It's different here in America. We have coupons, discounts, and member cards for EVERYTHING! It's what fosters our competitive market. :D

You can setup coupons through Google Checkout. My current one is code HA44 for $5 off $30.

And this works with using the Shopping Cart Creator system? I'm not sure how that would work since we haven't any coupon code boxes in the SCC that the customer could fill in to get the ending price, but if it's a possibility that we can let them know will go into affect at checkout in Google that would at least be something.

I know that PayPal does have a coupon system in its site but I don't think it interacts with SCC, I think it's for people doing stand alone sites, creating their own buttons and such. I know I tried setting one up at one time, but it didn't work.

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
