I still don't understand what s-drive...

Hi guys.

I'm embarrassed, I've read a lot of explanations and all the info in the S-Drive tab at coffeecup.com, but I still stumble at the first hurdle - namely selection of a website name to sign up to S-Drive to try it out.

My website is hosted elsewhere, I don't own a server, I need email with andrew@mydomainname.com.au, so what does s-drive do for me, and where do I find out what it costs. I can see on the drop down list for signing up to s-drive $14.95 per year for a .com domain name, but there are no .com.au options.

Call me stupid, roll your eyes, whatever, but I'm stumped.

S-Drive for lack of a better term is hosting. What we have done in integrate our software so that you can publish directly from it to your S-Drive account.

We have many different plans to choose from here at www.coffeecup.com/sdrive/plans

Right now we only sell .com/.net/.org domains through our website. All you would need to do is purchase your com.au domain through any domain name seller and then you can point that domain directly to your S-Drive account.

Hope that clears it all up. ;)

Assuming you own VSD or similar CC program

Go to you CC account and set up you free domain name mydomainname.coffeecup.com (its a CC sub domain)

Publish from your vsd or other program (by typing in your CC login name & password NO FTP JARGON REQUIRED) you website is now live and HOSTED on CC server

Get your domain name from a registrar, and do a re direct (FRAMED) pointed at mydomainname.coffeecup.com

type your domain name into address bar, and it will display your CC hosted website, displaying your domain name in the address bar.

You should now also be able to set your registrar account to have andrew@mydomainname.com.au email address go to a yahoo, google, gmail etc. account to get your emails

You now have free hosting for 1 website, 1 form and 1 stream all for free

If you want more websites, more forms etc, buy a webbie account

Theres a better way of dealing with your domain name, its a little more complicated, and you loose access to your email address

Thanks Scott,

Three Things:

Number One:

One of my problems is that if I'm on the coffecup.com/sdrive/ page, if I click on the My Plan tab, I go straight back to the overview tab - that's why I can't see the prices of plans unless I enter the web address you gave me directly.

After some playing around, I've now worked out that if I'm signed into my CoffeeCup account, the My Plans tab doesn't work. I can only see plan prices if I sign out.... is that intentional?

Number two:

How do I get email addresses of andrew@masterclockmaker.com.au?

Number Three:

I still don't know what to select as a web address at the first step of signing up to try out S-Drive. Do I just select something random, which will be fixed later if I start hosting through S-Drive?

Thanks again,

Andrew

P.S. I note that while previewing this post, Viv has answered number two and three for me while I've been composing this, but I'll leave the post as is.

Andrew

If you go to https://www.coffeecup.com/sdrive/plans you can see the plans right there. At the top of the page you can also enroll with your free CoffeeCup account or purchase a domain name. You can see this page logged in or logged out.

We do not handle e-mail. We have just decided to let the experts out there do this. Gmail offers hosted email solutions and it is free. With that service your an use your andrew@masterclockmaker.com.au if that is what you want. It takes about 10 minutes to setup. You can find more information here at gmail.com/a

Hi again Scott,

I understand that I can see the page coffeecup.com/sdrive/plans logged in or logged out, BUT, if I follow these steps (as a person simply looking around (and not aware that that page exists)), you cannot see that page if you're logged in.

a) Open www.coffeecup.com
b) Log into your coffeecup account
c) Click on the sdrive tab
d) Click on the MyPlan tab..... result is back to the overview tab

I'm trying not to sound moany.... just pointing out where some of my confusion comes from.

Thanks again,

Andrew

Out of interest the .co version of your domain is available incase you want to stop anyone else using it, could also be useful if you used that to set up your s drive , and then you would not lose access to your .co.au email address. ( or the other way around, used the .co for your email its shorter)

When you get to C, click on "Go to Dashboard" , upper right under the Coffee Cup menu tabs. :D

I had another "crash" Started a new thread under the Domains heading, guess I forgot to hit post 'cause it's not there :P

I am on my way to becoming an SDrive pro! Airbags would certainly help in the meantime.
Must go re-post my latest domain name dilemma
