Using Shopping Cart HTML Editor...

I'm trying to set up a shop with CC, and I get the principles. I've bought the designer pro too and will use that to tweak colour schemes when I've added all the content and info into my shop.

I have a few issues with the content on static pages on SCC, and find it a bit boring just a page of text. I've posted a question about inserting images and was told to use the insert HTML button. This I did using another HTML editor to get the code but didn't get good results.

I thought the CC HTML Editor would/should be more compatible (same compnay) so I've downloaded trial version, I like the looks of it so will probably buy (now I've missed the special offer!! especially seen as it includes the web color schemer that I already bought).

I was trying to insert into my how to order page a table with info. I made this in CC HTML Editor using a table and copied/pasted the code into the insert html box. Pressed preview and it was nearly ok. After tweaking i managed to center, make lines bigger etc. Fairly pleased, although first couple times it worked fine, but now telling me some tags aren't closed so
all I get now is whole load of text on the page. Is there not a tool in the editor that spots broken tags or links?

I saw that you can also buy theme packs for the HTML Editor which are for shopping cart - how do these work? Do you install into editor and work and enter your content there? I tried to find out in the help PDF to no avail.

My first though was that I'll use an HTML editor to make the code of things I want to add to pages - images, tables etc and copy and paste into Shopping Cart Creator. But if there are already the SCC themes and matching site themes ready would I save time by getting hold of these themes and using them directly in the CCHTML editor?. I already purchased an extra set of themes for the SCC can these not be added to the editor?

Hope someone will understand my pain. I've checked out some of the sites everyone is making and some are really great and I think - these shops were created from Shopping CC?

Would really like some guidance pls! Anyone?

Tks for taking time to get to bottom of page - lol

Hello Martine,

I'll try to touch on each of your questions if I'm able to here.
The SCC HTML insertion tool works pretty good for adding graphics to your pages, but I haven't figured out how to adjust them once added so I'm not much help there, but I do know that it does work, just need to find out how to adjust them such as centering etc.

The HTML Editor although not connected in any way to the SCC program, will pretty much do anything you need it to do including making external pages for your shop if you need them, which is what I did after I failed to put what I needed into the SCC extra pages. I already doctored up my theme for my cart so I did pretty much have to start from the same point as I did in the SCC and I had a lot of help here on the forums for placing my stuff on the pages for my backgrounds and borders and such. I basically ripped apart a SCC theme and made it my own.

When you insert code into the SCC HTML insertion area, be sure "not" to include the html, head and body etc. tags as they are already part of the pages of the SCC. I'm going to assume you already knew that since you had it working at one point. Another thing to watch is that sometimes it likes to add extra brackets around the code when it's edited [[[ codehere ]]] and it should be only 3 on each side so check that too and make sure it didn't add more. A small flaw I haven't seen fit to report as of yet lol (*ducks so the team don't shoot me*) :P

You'll find lots of already created SCC themes that have counterparts for the HTML Editor as you already mentioned, and you basically just put them in the right spot (not really needing an installation) so that the HTML Editor can find them (there's a specific folder in your documents area that is made for this if I recall correctly, sorry I haven't added a new theme to the editor in a bit). It's a pretty easy process though to add new themes to the HTML Editor setup.

The themes for the SCC and the HTML Editor are separate entities I'm afraid as they are entirely different programs which utilize code completely different from eachother so they are not interchangable unfortunately. But the good news is that the themes you need for the HTML Editor are in the themes area of the CC site and pretty cheap, in fact there was a sale going on just last week that maybe if you beg and plead you can get the team to extend for you as well as the editor? Not sure, but it's worth asking at least, they are pretty darn good people and the worst they can do is say no right? :P I would try a ticket to see what they can do for you on it. The theme special was really nice so I bought a bunch myself for HTML Editor, I didn't get any for SCC and probably should have, but oh well lol.

I hope I touched some on al the questions you were wondering about, and if I missed something please let me know and I'm sure one of us will be able to help you out some. Do open a ticket with Support and see if they will help you on the discounts or not, can't hurt to ask :)

P.S. Just as a suggestion, if you do decide to go with matching themes for both SCC and HTML Editor, I would suggest you work with one at a time and get one of them down pat how you want it, and I would suggest you start with the SCD as it's a little fussier on how things are placed than the HTML Editor is so it's easier to match up HTML to the SCD rather than the other way around. Once you have them both done, then tweaking is easier in the SCD but that's just my opinions :)

Jo Ann
Thanks for your input. I've worked out the centering bit. Indeed you just but it before your text <center> - well it worked for me, even centering numbers in a table.

But still a bit stuck on image. think it has to do the the address. Do you upload your images or use from your computer files? You couldn't copy paste the code of an image of yours that you have successfully inserted via html box as an example for me to understand the path?

The CC editor is definitely better than what I used, so think I'll be able to sort things out there.

I think I'll try your suggestion (shall I name you!!lol) to see if I get a better deal - in fact when I bought a bundle of the SCC themes, I had a hell of a time unzipping one theme, only to find I couldn't cos it was already there.. the g,,od darned theme was already a default one - so I didn't my full 5 in the bundle ah ah..

Tks again
Martine

p.s pls explain what your moving avatar is depicting?

Hiya Martine,

I'll have to try centering an image again with the <center> code because I'm sure I tried that as well as a few others before gave up in SCC on it. Thanks for the tip and maybe it's just my computer gremlins giving me a hard time as usual lol.

My images for HTML insertions are always uploaded addresses so that I don't have to mess with them much. Just put the full URL address and you'll be set to go. Doesn't matter where they reside then as long as you reference their exact locations.

You're more than welcome to use my name, although I don't know if that will make any difference or not lol. I would also explain to them the theme problem if you purchased 1 that you already have as I didn't realize myself even that themes included with the programs are part of the purchased ones too. I would think they would offer you a different one in it's place, but once again all I can say is ask and see what they say on it.

LOL as for my avatar it's a winter scene that someone stuck their tongue out onto a pole and it got stuck on it (froze to it) lol
