Hi!
'getting closer to launch day and I will probably have questions about FTP upload. But thinking ahead, I have got some 140 pages, all but one includes the main navigation, created in the built-in Menu designer, which created the mnu file. Once live, and I need to add to or edit the navigation, is there any way to make the changes WITHOUT going into every page , deleteing the existing nav code, opening the mnu>OK>Save?

Google "server side includes" - this may be a technique you might be interested in, since it means having a menu located in only one page.

Hi,

I'm just starting out with HTML Editor and have a question about the Menu Designer. I created a menu for one of my pages and it worked perfectly in preview but, as soon as I uploaded it to my site, it failed to open to the sub categories and sibling categories. I hesitate to put more time into making these menus for my other pages if they don't work once they're live.

Can anyone tell me why it didn't work on the site or what I might be able to do to enable it?

Also, I seem to be having difficulty uploading edited pages through the Editor. They appear to be transferring but, when I check out my page in my public folder they're unchanged. Can someone just tell me how I should be doing the uploading. I tried through the upload under the File tab and I also tried through the Web tab but no change to the files on my servers side.

I'm using Windows 7 and the latest version of the editor.

Thanks for any help you can give me in this.

Hi Sheila,

Is it IE that is giving issues with the menu? If so I suspect you may need to add some extra code for IE. Can you give us a link to your site so we can have a look?

With the uploads not changing, check to make sure the new files are going to the right folder as sometimes they find their way to another. You could try uploading them using Direct FTP....that way you can be sure they are going to the correct folder.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said...but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not exactly what I meant.

Hi,

Thanks for your response. Actually, it's the World browser which mimics IE but has less issues. If you're not familiar with it, I can do anything with it that I can do with IE such as downloading only through IE software, etc. I do also try things out on IE to see if that's the issue and it actually does not function on either.

My site is thewritesolutionsnow.com but I took the menu off for now until I could get it to function properly.

Can I copy and paste into Direct FTP? I'm not too familiar with that program yet either so I'm not sure if I can import it from the site and then edit it or if I can just copy and paste from HTML Editor.

Thanks for any help you can give me with this. Do you have the additional code for using the menus with IE? Sorry about my ignorance.

Hi Sheila,

Direct FTP is just for uploading files to your server not for editing. So when you open it you set up your servers and connect and then navigate to the folder on your server that you want to add your files to. This will appear in the right hand panel.

In the left hand panel you browse for the folder with your project in it If its just been saved as default it will be in My Documents/CoffeeCup Software/HTML Editor/Projects

Then you just drag and drop files on the left into the folder on the right.

As far as the code for IE...no not off hand but I'm sure someone else will chime in with it.

Hi Again,

You were right about Direct FTP doing the job. I did manage to upload the one page I wanted to using that program. Now if I can figure out the menu issue I'll be all set. I hope you can help. Thanks again.

Hiya Sheila,

Just thought I'd let you 2 know that you actually can edit your files using DirectFTP by just opening them using the built in editor tab at the bottom. You can not only edit them locally but also can edit them on the server too. If you do edit them on your server though, be sure to download the most current version so you don't accidently change things locally and end up overwriting the more current one.

If your FTP isn't working in your HTML Editor, you really should open a ticket with support, because it's way easier to upload that way and it's nicer to keep things organized that way too as the program will automatically put the files right into the same place they are locally so you don't have to navigate anywhere to upload them. I'd open a ticket and see if support can help you figure out what might be setup incorrectly for your HTML Editor settings for ftp.

Actually DirectFTP does have an editor built-in. I use it frequently when troubleshooting 'minor' issues, as it saves time over opening HTML Editor, the file I need, making the change, re-uploading, etc... With D-FTP I just open the file make the change and save, ready to test. I wouldn't even think about attempting to code an entire page with it, but for small tasks it's perfect.
