HTML Editor 09 -uploads fine - where...

I downloaded the new HTML Editor (09) and love the software. My server settings were saved from the previous HTML Editor (08). When I test the settings to be sure it works the software shows to connect successfully.

Only one problem when editing just one page and I upload just that one page from File/Upload file to server/my server it shows the file being uploaded successfully but when I review it on the internet there are no changes on my website.

I then have to open DirectFTP and use that software for that one little change. (added a fax number) I even opened it from the web, (File/Open from the web/index.html and made changes but the changes did not appear on the web after I uploaded it again.

All of my server setups are working fine according to CC HTML Editor Server setup. My question is this, where is the file going?

I may want to go back to HTML Editior 08 if it is possible. It made it easier on me and less time consuming when making minor changes.

Thanks for your time.

Did you try to force clear your cache? Depending on how your browser is set up, you may not be seeing the changes because you aren't loading the most recent file into the browser, but rather using a cached file.

Thanks for your quick response. That was the first thing that I thought of so I cleaned everything out and even went into my hosting account and the new changes were not there.

The changes are uploaded if I use DirectFTP separately but I guess I am spoiled and sometimes just like to make changes on page at a time and upload each page individually from the HTML Editor software.

I am truly baffled by where these pages are being uploaded to, or if they are even being uploaded at all. Everything indicates that it is working properly except that I can't find the changes anywhere not even in my hosted files.

The only thing I can think of off hand is you may have incorrectly configured the Remote Folders options. Edit your Server Configuration and go to the Remote Folders area and add a folder for each location that you want to upload to. It sounds like you are probably uploading to the root folder of your server and not to the folder where your Website files are stored.

Now when you right-click on a file, a menu like this will appear:

I have been uploading my files to root folder ever since buying the software in 2007.

I have three websites that I upload to and all are with the same hosting company and I have always just uploaded to root folder using the previous versions of HTML Editor. With that being said, I tried it the way you suggested and even though it shows that it uploads fine, there is no evidence of it ever getting to the server.

I will just make changes and then execute DirectFTP and upload it with that software. It is a pain but its doable at least until we can figure this problem out.

I am still stumped as to why my new version of HTML Editor has the same setting as the previous version (it evidently saved all settings) but it isn't uploading anywhere. I have the older version on my laptop still and have double checked all of the settings against the new version and it baffles me as to why it uploads into the abyss.

Computers and systems are very logical things and there is always a simple explanation behind mysteries like this. There are only the few reasons changes to pages won't show up; 1, the page hasn't been changed and 2, the page has been changed but the browser doesn't see it and 3, the page isn't where the browser thinks it is. Because your settings are the same, it would therefore stand that the page is where it should be and you just can't see it. The code behind DirectFTP and the FTP part of the editor are very similar (if not identical) and if the editor version didn't work in some way then these forums would be full of instances of the problem. It could possibly be some server quirk but the fact that it shows as uploaded means that it probably has; that said, it is possible I suppose you could have some server/software combination where the page isn't being uploaded properly but no errors are thrown back, but this is unlikely.

Posting a link and/or code so we can all have a look and see what is going on would be good.

Long story short, you need to make sure the page you are changing is the one you are uploading, it is going to the right place on the server and that your browser is set up to view all new versions of the pages. If all these boxes are checked, then the page should show up.

The upload function that you are using right now has not been modified in the last 3 versions of the editor. If it worked in the 2007/2008 releases, I really cannot see why it would not work in the latest build as well. I would do as Dave suggestions and really check out all the settings. It still sounds to me like the information is going to the wrong location.

I thank you all so very much for the help and support I have received.

It has been resolved!! For two years I have been uploading to Root directory and it had been working fine with all previous versions of HTML Editor.

I went into edit server clicked on file option for remote directory which in turn showed my files on my server. I found my root directory/ plus all files listed. I double clicked on root directory and it changed my remote folder to my username/. It worked fine without having to specify each and every file name.
Of course I would change it if I have to upload something into a sub-folder but all in all the CC software actually corrected my problem for me!!!

I love CC software and especially love the support that has been provided by you all!!

BTW Dave I never found where the files went before I changed it. I checked ever available place it could be on my hosting server and the page that I changed was no where to be found.

That will give you something to think about for days on end I am sure!

Thanks for your help!

A mystery to be sure. They will be somewhere, just not where you think they are.
