Although the editor does not show the following file types in the file list because of the file filter, they are there and get uploaded when using the editor's FTP or the CC Direct FTP program:

Can't these files be stored elsewhere other than the actual project files and have the editor find them there? Maybe have their very own folder for all projects other than being installed within the projects' folder among all the other site files?

Yes, they can. That is just the Project that you have setup. And when you need to Open that project again (say you deleted it by accident) you would use the .cpf file to do so. It does not need to be stored in the project folder. It just has to be pointed to the correct location.

Sorry, but that isn't the way it is working. I point new projects to the directory where my site project is located since I have several projects. No problem with that, but it puts the project .cpf files in the same site directory (root folder) which gets uploaded using FTP if you don't catch them before hand. Especially if you use the editor's FTP for uploding entire site. I see no way to make sure the editor puts those files elsewhere when I point the "My Projects" manager to my project site. These files are only made after you set up a site project.

I see no way around what you're asking for Ron. The .cpf files are always in the location you want the program to "open" for that project. That's the whole point of it pointing to your root directory. If you point it to any other directory then that would become the root directory of your project and you wouldn't be able to go back up the file tree to get to the real directory for the project. So yes, it needs to point to the root directory of your project always.

I would think that the only way around this would be for the program to ignore those files for uploading. It might be something easy for the CC team to do and it would be a good idea for the most part.

I've been corrected on what I said. You can put that .cpf file anywhere as that holds the information for what directory you want the root of the project to be and will open whatever directory that file has setup. So drag those files anywhere you like. outside of your project. I would imagine you can use a single folder outside all projects to hold all of your .cpf / .cpfs files therefore keeping them all together. This would stop them from being uploaded and there is really no need to change the program to alter this then. Good luck on it.

Sorry but that is the way it is working. You can move that CPF file to ANY folder you want or even to your desktop. It DOES NOT have to be in the folder of your project. When you move that CPF file and try to open your project, the Editor will ask you to located your project because the CPF file has been moved. But once you located that CPF file that is all you will have to do and that will solve your problem. Try it and if you can not get it to work I will walk you through how to do it.

I think everyone misunderstands. I know what the cpf files are for, but when uou make a new project and browse to where it is, the editor puts those files in the root directory of the site you are working on. They don't need to be there as they get uploaded during FTP if you select to upload all files or use Direct FTP and don't un-select them.

Why should you have to go the extra steps to drag them out of your project files? The editor should just put ALL the cpf files in one folder that it can use to select the correct one from to open the project you want. I rather have the program changed, but it's up to CC.

The cpf files are only made and inserted in your site's root directory after you name it and browse to where it is. Not before, so moving them and browsing to the cpf file, will not work. Especially as there are the ones that are put in for the editor, the server and the S-Drive depending on what you select from the FTP upload/project list.

I know those files are suppose to point to the root directory of the project I selected, but the files DO NOT have to also be put IN the same project directory files. The editor should have a set path to the cpf files it uses each time you select a project. After all, each cpf file is NAMED after your project name you gave it when setting up the path to it. If you set up server information, a .cpfs file is made. It too can go in with all the others.

I know you think I'm nitpicking, but it has been this way for years. Just like the problem reported about the editor clearing the Clipboard if you accidentally do a Ctrl + c on a blank space making any further search with F3 lost.

Umm Ron, you already commented to what I said prior to your last post which is where I corrected what I said originally agreeing with you lol, but..., in all the years of using the editor, and I've used it for many, and all the years I've been on the forums which are also many, you are the first person ever to complain about this.

So... move them to a different location and call it good. Personally I don't want them moved on default to a different location, and it's very logical that it would put them in the root directory of the project. Thinking they should go elsewhere on default is illogical thinking, and it takes only a a short time to do what I just did in about 20 seconds.

Open your main folder where you keep all your projects

Create a new folder and call it something like CPF Files All like I did

Open that directory as a new window

in the other window click on each of your project directories and drag those files out into the new directory.

Now go back to the editor and reopen each of your projects and it will automatically ask you where the location of the project file is. Navigate to the new folder and associate the corresponding .cpf or .cpfs file and you're done.

I had only a few projects that I had already re-setup (due to issues I had with cCleaner while testing the beta of HTML Editor, I never bothered to reassociate any but those I was currently working on) so it only took me about 20 seconds.

Granted some people may have a lot of projects associated, but still it's quick, painless, and a whole lot easier and faster than expecting CC to have to alter this for your one and only request I've ever seen for this.

Yes you are correct that the files can go anywhere, I've already posted that post where I corrected what I had originally said about it. Why post again complaining about the previous post I made when you already commented on the post I made recanting my mistaken thoughts about where the files had to be.

Hate to be dense or persistent, but why take ALL those steps for each project when the editor could be coded to do just that and still remember where to find the cpf files since they are named by project name. I have about 7 projects and I think you are still missing my point here. I do not want to move the actual site files. Just the cpf files that point to them that get put in each project directory that gets uploaded when using FTP. Moving the cpf files means you have to reestablish where to find them as the editor originally put them in one place and you moved them to another place. This was just a suggestion, not a default of the editor which is why it was posted here. Other suggestions seem to get ignored or problems even with new editor are glossed over. No problem. I'll keep using the editor as I have bought a lot of CC software, themes and graphics.
