I seem unable to find out what this option is for. What will be automatically encoded?

The URL you entered in the HREF box.

For example, if you enter {$unsubscribe_link} it would be automatically encoded to %7B$unsubscribe_link%7D. To prevent that from happening, uncheck the "Automatic encoding" box.

Scott, so is this something we would generally just check all the time? Or are there times where we should definitely not check it?

It is checked by default, so the only time you want to uncheck it is if you do not want the characters you entered in the Href box to be automatically encoded.

Hi All
Scott for all of us non tecky people

How about an explanation as to why it needs encoding rather than what it does

I already did. ;)

If you do not want something like {$unsubscribe_link} to turn into %7B$unsubscribe_link%7D then uncheck the box.

Don't over think it. ;)

I have been mailing a bit with Scott over this issue, and one example could be if you happen to have a link with spaces in the file name, you could check that automatic encoding, and then a '%20' will be inserted into the space. Otherwise the link would not work. I don't know of other uses, not yet, anyway.

Thanks Inger, actually I already know the reasons and the why's, was just trying to get some sort of plain explanation in case others who are not likely to know want to know (if that makes some sense) so that we could point them to the explanation if required.

Have a good day tomorrow Im going back in until 30 Dec then off to Java to start repairs to the house.

You might have to write that Explanation yourself ;)
Here in continental Europe today is actually the most important day of Christmas.
Good luck with the house repairs.
