VSD Help!

I am creating a site for someone and utilizing VSD. I would like to be able to just give the files to him and let him upload them to his host. Will he have any problems interacting with the files to update html without coffee cup software? The main file that I'm concerned with is the main page which is a vnu file, not a html like the others. If this answer is posted elsewhere, my apologies...I could not find it.

Thank you-Kevan

Kevan,

You may want to click on profile and change your forum name to something other than your email address. Spam bots are always searching for valid email addresses.

When you save a site with VSD, the files are all saved in a folder, and you can upload just those files using any FTP program. Also the .vnu file is saved and is the file you open with VSD. The HTML files are the ones used by the web server to serve up the web pages.

Thank you Bill, for the tip about the forum name. Also, I understand how to get the site up and running, I have my own. I was wondering though, will he need to upload the vnu file also and without VSD, will he be able to modify the site? Can he use his own editor?

Thanks again, Kevan

Man am I thick some times! I think after reading your post for the third time I get it. Tell me if I have this: I give him the web site file, he doesn't need the vnu because he doesn't have VSD, the html files will live on his hosts server and he will be able to edit them with any editor he chooses. Is this right? Sorry for the confusion, but I'm learning.

I believe the answer is . . .
Yes, someone can use an html editor to edit a VSD file(s) after it's been uploaded to a server.
HOWEVER, once an html editor has touched it. You won't be able to edit it with VSD anymore.

Kevan,

rodgw has the correct answer. HTML pages can be edited with any editor that will handle text (but MS programs tend to make a mess of things).

If you do edit the pages, VSD will not see those changes when you open the vnu file. Since you are turning the site over to the owner, he will have no need for the vnu file unless he wants to purchase VSD and continue using it to maintain his site.
