VSD 7 save operation takes much...

Has anyone noticed that it takes considerably longer (approx. 3 times longer) to save a web site in VSD 7 than it took in VSD 6.06? I've already asked Scott this question, but he hasn't noticed a difference. So, I thought I'd ask other users. I have a Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz Dell with 2 GHz of RAM and a 250 GB 7200 RPM hard drive with 4 partitions (1 for the OS and 3 for data) that each have a lot of free space. The quickest I can get VSD 7 to save my 35-page web site is 2 minutes and 50 seconds, but to achieve this I have to reboot my system and save my web site under a new name. Normally, it takes me about 3 minutes, give or take a few seconds. In VSD 6.06, however, it only took between 45 seconds and 1 minute to save my web site, and in VSD 5.9.4, it only took about fifteen seconds. It seems to me like each new version of VSD takes about three times longer to save than the previous version.

Wow! Thanks, Eric. What size are your pages, and what do they consist of? Also, what's your system specs. I see you are using 64-bit Windows 7. That makes a big difference. I'm using XP. I forgot to mention that my processor is the E8400. How fast did your web site save in VSD 6.06?

Tom, just an FYI. My tests were also performed on Windows XP SP3. Intel Core Duo 2.16GHz, 4GB of RAM.

I didn't use version 6.
The current website that I just check the save time on has a folder size of 12.6 MB right now.
My laptop has
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.2 GHz
4 Gig Ram
320 Hard drive
I can't hear what I'm looking at.

Thanks, Scott, for the info. I'm using XP Pro SP3. My web site folder size is 12.5 MB. The other thing I should mention is that VSD 7 uses nearly 50% of my CPU, which means it's using nearly 100% of one of my CPU's cores.

What other factors are there that would affect the time it takes VSD 7 to complete a save operation?

For me it uses about 10% of my CPU at peak time. Most of the time it has been my experience that when resource issues become a problem with software, I find that the registry has started becoming too large. I tend to just format then try to debug it.

You can find CCleaner at http://www.piriform.com and it is well worth the small little download it takes. This may fix your issue and it may not. If it doesn't I would suggest that you:

1. Uninstall VSD

2. Run CCleaner

3. Reboot

4. Reinstall VSD

That "should" fix the problems if just running Ccleaner doesn't do the trick. Good luck on it :)

Thanks, Jo Ann, for the info. I've used CCleaner once before on my old PC. The thing I didn't like about it is that it cleaned my system and deleted all of my IE History info without giving me the option first to tell it what I did and didn't want it to clean. It tried to do the same thing this time I ran it, but I clicked the Cancel button before it got too far. Anyway, after I deselected all the stuff I didn't want CCleaner to touch under Windows and Applications (which includes most of the stuff on both lists), I did an analysis on the Registry and then fixed all the issues. Then I repeated this procedure one more time to make sure nothing was missed. Next, I unistalled VSD 7 and repeated the above procedure two more times before I rebooted my system. Then I reinstalled VSD 7, opened my web site, and did another test save. The save operation took 2 minutes and 53 seconds.

PS: My goodness, Jo Ann, you look beautiful today with your green spiked hair. I sure hope the stuff your drinking in that cup doesn't make your hair wilt! :)
