Hi Eric,
When you say "a dedicated folder on your pc " what exactly do you mean? i apologize for my ignorance, but this is obviously why I am using a WYSIWYG program.

Add a folder to your pc and call it Mywebsites cool files.
Now any images or files you want to add to your site place inside this folder.
Now click on the image tool in VSD and browse to this dedicated folder to add the images to your page.
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

This is a site I built for my work.(RSD)

This is a site I built for use in my job.(HTML Editor)

This is my personal site used for testing and as an easy way to share photos.(RLM imported to RSD)

Hi Eric,
Okay I have done that already, which is where all of my files are stored, but I am trying to place a link so that there is a popup to one of the files and it will not work. I had it going to VSD (in my stored files on there) originally but i am not at all sure how to have it go to my PC , if that is in fact where it is supposed to go.

Holly, the thing about VSD is that it is WYSIWYG. If your images are in your web site and when you preview your site in VSD they show up, then there is nothing more you need to do.

However, if you add images from all over your computer, VSD changes these image names when you publish your site. Yet VSD remembers where they came from on your computer. If you move or delete any of those images then you have broken your VSD site and it will be difficult to edit it because VSD will not be able to find your images.

What most of use do is create a folder inside the folder where you are saving your VSD site. ie: c:\documents/myvsdsites/client1 is where I would save my vsd site for that client. Then I would create a folder called c:\documents/myvsdsites/client1/graphics where I would put all the images I plan to use in my vsd site. Before I start the site, and while I am editing the site. If I find I need a new image I copy it to that graphics folder before adding it to the VSD site. That way VSD always knows where to find the images I use. You do not have to upload this folder. Just keep it on your computer. When you publish your site VSD will upload the images you have used.

Now, if you are trying to link to an image NOT used in your site, I would still copy it to that graphics folder. Then use the EDIT/ADD FILES menu option to create a folder within your VSD site and copy that image to it. Then point your link to that file. Hope that helps.

Steve we're using hostgator. I am trying to place a link that will open up to a sample image. I have the images stored in my file folder on VSD and you can make a link there which is why I don't understand why i should not be using that feature.

Have you got a link to that hostgator website? I tried your earlier link and it took me to 1and1.

Good explanation Gunsmoke I will try that when I get home tonight. I have always manually created a folder and uploaded it to the server. You learn something new about VSD everyday.
