I have noticed recently, in Internet Explorer, telephone numbers are always converted into Skype links. This does not happen on other browsers. In the preview I don't get this problem, even when run under IE

This seems to be basically an IE problem rather than a VSD problem but does anyone have any ideas on how to fool IE (or is it its Skype add-on) into not recognising telephone numbers and leaving them alone.

Uninstall Skype from your pc.

It is probably good to know that it only affects people who use both Internet Explorer and Skype as that reduces the numbers likely to be affected but still leaves a large number who will be affected.

From my own point of view, although I thoroughly dislike the way it renders the telephone numbers on my website, i would not consider removing Skype as it is used regularly by my wife and I to communicate with family around the world. Anyway, the question is not about how it appears on my PC, it's about how it appears to all the other users of the website who happen to use IE and Skype

I am trying to find a solution which does not involve such drastic action as you suggest.

Turn the phone number text to Advanced Text. That will make an image out of it and will fix that.

There is probably a setting on Skype to adjust that too, haven't looked, but I'm almost sure I recall a setting either in Skype or in the Browser settings, think it was in Skype though.

You're righgt, Jo Ann, there is a setting in Skype. Don't remember where, though, haven't used Skype for a long while.

This was from a 2011 thread (answered by 'Shunned'), so don't know if that still applies.

I guess the proper approach all depends on whether it's just you that don't want the numbers being grabbed by Skype or if you want to control your users also.
