Creating a Pop-Up Window from A Link...

I have been working on a very detailed website in VSD for some time now. I have scoured the internet, the forums here, etc, and can't seem to find anything that works for me...and/or that I can understand. This is my first website. I can't give you the web address because I can't upload it to our corporate server until it is done...so I test it using the VSD Internet Explorer preview option.

Anyhow....I am TRYING to create a POP-UP or New Window (BLANK) from an object/image link. Here's the example:

My pages are all 1024 x 768 default. Some go as long as 1024 x 6000, but that's besides the point.

HERE'S MY PROBLEM:
When I have an image or object on my page that I create a link to a new blank window, what I want to be able to do is CLICK the object/image and have a new blank window come up (pop-up) in a particular size I set, for instance 300 x 300. I can't get this to work. I have tried a million different variations and IE always opens the window up too large (I have also made sure windows are not maximized):

1. created a new page, set the settings to 300 x 300, centered...then linked the object to the new page as a new blank window, and the pop-up window still opens at 1024 x 768
2. created a new page, created the text as a jpg image, and linked the image/object to open as an image...but the new pop-up window still opens at 1024 x 768
3. created a new page, tried some html code I found on the internet and placed in the header

I have spent 4 hours on this. I can't take it anymore LOL. :mad:What I need is a simple way to link to a new blank window where I can control the size of the window when it pops up.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!! Hope this makes sense. :)

A little javascript should sort this one out though I am not sure how (or if) you will be able to do this with the VSD. Perhaps someone else has tried this in the program and so can be more helpful on this one.

Hi David,
I would checkout http://www.yaldex.com/
and download the free scripts -if you have any problems using them in VSD let us know.
1. created a new page, set the settings to 300 x 300, centered..

I added a page as you did for a test and here is my result:

click on the image and the text link see if it works for you.

WOW! That video is amazing. I am going to follow your instructions on Monday when I get back the office. I have a question:

1) I don't have HTML editor, I just use VSD. Can't I just copy and paste the code into the HTML header? Or do I have to have some sort of other program to do this?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

second question:

Does yaldex have to be loaded on our server, or just my workstation?

Thanks!

question 1)
you don't need an html editor - you can use notepad for that to read but if you don't know any coding then it's a must use. I don't know much coding myself and use html editor for this purpose. Yaldex will make the javascript code for you and gives you the option to use an "onload" or "text" option for the pop up, but I wanted to use an image instead so I chose to replace a link with an image. You can always download the trial version if you care to do the same, and just use as you mentioned the "edit header" option, and the html tool to add all the code. Another cool thing is with the Yaldex pop up you need only enter the code once into the header, just a matter of changing the image for each link. Hope that makes sense.

question 2)
Yaldex gets loaded into VSD, which in turn is loaded on your server, so YES. but if done correctly you should be able to preview your pop up if you use the "add files" to add your image (thumbnail).
Just ask if you need any help, be glad to lend a hand. :)
