Spent a month getting my website ready. Wasn't able to upload it through VSD, get a "Testing Folder Creation...ERROR, so I tried through the free FTP and I was able to upload all the files. However, my website is displaying just a big red square (and I don't even use the color red!) I don't know what to do.

Ok, have tried various ways to fill out the www folder field in VSD:
the address that the hosting svc gave me, then /www, www, and finally left it blank. When I left it blank, it still didn't work, but did get me a little bit further along. This time the error read: Testing Server and Logon...OK, Testing Folder Creation...OK, Testing Uploads...ERROR.

Last night I uploaded what I think are all the files in my website folder using the free ftp. For some reason, that worked with basically the same info, but the website still looks weird. The "files" folder is there. Could it be that all my stuff is in the wrong place? On Hostway's site, the folders that they have are: database, PPD, secure and www. I uploaded the files to www. I also created a bunch of new folders to put the files in on the ftp. Was I supposed to do that? Or am I supposed to just drag the whole folder into the ftp? Sorry about all of this, but I don't know what I'm doing I guess.

Ok! you answered it. your website folder ( lizvandall_website,) everything in that folder should be placed inside the www folder on your server. VSD makes a folder called "file" which all your images are saved to. don't be sorry. lol the only thing is if VSD makes a folder called "files" and you decided to move the images to another folder, you would get an x in place of the image as you have got. and so either you'll have to remove what you have there now, and resend all of the VSD website folder's content together to server, or just try place or moving them in til they are all together in the servers manager.what should be there are all your pages, 2 index and 2 default files, a files folder(with images) a folder for your photo gallery folder , an xml, swf, swf object.js a folder named myjukebox_files etc;
all that in the www folder on server.
UPDATE: in the WWW slot as in the image above try this---/www---
I find this works.

Thanks so much Bruce. I deleted all the files from the host and am in the process of uploading them again. I can now see the site up, there's still little things that aren't there, but obviously I'm still uploading. One question about the ftp though. Do the folders that I create on the host have to be identically named as the folders in my computer?

it's best if they are, for example if you made a folder called prepfotos, and when you added any images from that folder into VSD, VSD will look for that folder, and if it doesn't find it, then you will have to look for each image used to the new folder.,If your talking maybe having a sub folder , this can be done also, and if you decide to have extra files located in the sub folder you would need to link them with the folders name
(subfolder/whatever as example.)this basically for external files not associated with in VSD. Ok Blabbing aside it's best to keep them the same. Very Nice BTW

Question are you still using another ftp or from VSD?
I was able to upload putting /www in the www slot
