will using VSD still allow me to optimize my page for SEO purposes? Such as editing the page title or adding h1 or h2 header tags, including alt tags for for images and so on? I didn't see a editing page with html
so that i could add the above items. I hope this question makes sense.

you can use VSd as your starting point for your website, but editing afterwards will mean from that point on using an html editor or notepad or whatever. Vsd won't be able to interpet your changes unless it's done in the program, which is why I would say notta chance. I think if you want to make changes and you know enough coding then why not start from scratch with the HTML Editor Coffeecup makes. this is my opinion only!

I use visual site designer and save everything on disk.

When I need to edit my site I just pop in the disk and make the changes and upload the new file(s)

You are in complete control of what is on your website.

Chip, Did you find the answer to your question? Yes, you can edit the title and you can have <h1> tags for SEO.
Use 'Page Inspector' to enter the title you would like to have for your page.
Use the HTML Tool to enter your <h1> tags.
